M25 traffic: Huge vehicle fire causes havoc on motorway as drivers see 'delays building rapidly'

Drivers are being warned of havoc on the M25 this afternoon as emergency services deal with a massive car fire.
National Highways: South East is reporting that traffic on the M25 clockwise is currently stopped due to the fire.
Issues have been identified between Junction 8 (Reigate) and Junction 9 (Leatherhead) in Surrey.
Surrey Fire and Rescue Service are on the scene, with motorists being warned of "delays building rapidly".

Drivers are facing long delays along the M25

National Highways stated that once the fire is under control, officers would look to allow traffic to run past the scene in two lanes.
Two of the four lanes are now closed, with police escorting vehicles past the scene as emergency services remain at the scene.
Motorists are being told to expect at least 30 minutes of delays on the approach to the accident.

Traffic maps from National Highways show that the event is expected to clear between 4.45pm and 5pm, although this could still change.
Drivers will have to wait slightly longer for normal traffic conditions to return, however. Forecasts state that this will take slightly longer.

Transport analysts Inrix said: "Queueing traffic and two lanes closed due to car fire on M25 clockwise after J8 A217 Brighton Road (Reigate).
"Congestion to just after J7 (M23) with the opposite side very slow back to J9 (Leatherhead) due to onlookers. Lanes one and two (of four) remain closed past the scene."
