Drivers across Lincolnshire could see several speed limit changes introduced for the first time under new plans targeting road safety.
North Lincolnshire Council has launched a public consultation on plans to change speed limits on parts of two major roads, the A18 and the A1077.
The council said the proposed changes are targeted and practical, aimed at improving safety in villages while still allowing traffic to move freely.
Residents, businesses and drivers are being asked to have their say before the consultation closes on Thursday, February 5.
According to the authority, some existing speed limits no longer reflect how the roads are actually used, especially near village edges, junctions and areas close to homes, shops and pedestrian routes.
The proposals form part of a wider highways investment programme across North Lincolnshire, which also includes resurfacing roads, fixing potholes and upgrading junctions.
Councillor Rob Waltham said the plans were about focusing on everyday concerns for local communities alongside targeting bad driving habits.
He said: "Where roads pass through, or alongside villages, speed limits need to reflect that reality. These are sensible, targeted changes that put safety first while still supporting movement across the network."

One of the key areas affected is Melton Ross on the A18, with the council now proposing lower speed limits closer to the village boundary and at important junctions.
Plans revealed that a 60-metre section of road on the airport side of Melton Ross, currently set at 50mph, would be reduced to 30mph, extending the existing lower limit further east.
In addition, a 40mph zone to the west of the B1211 junction would be extended by around 105 metres, replacing another short stretch currently set at 50mph.

Changes have also been planned for the A1077 at Barton-upon-Humber, with a proposed 50mph speed limit along Barrow Road for around 1,000 metres eastwards towards Barrow-upon-Humber.
This section of road currently follows a 30mph residential zone, with the new limit aiming to provide a smoother transition for drivers leaving the built-up area.
The authority said this will improve consistency on a route where traffic is moving away from homes and local facilities.

| GETTYDeputy council leader and cabinet member for highways, Councillor Neil Poole, stressed that the proposals are based on evidence rather than ideology.
He continued, saying: "We regularly review speed limits to make sure they remain appropriate. These proposals are based on guidance, evidence and local conditions - not blanket reductions.
"By making small but meaningful adjustments in the right places, we can improve safety, reduce risk and support smoother journeys."
The council insisted that these are not wide-ranging speed cuts, but carefully chosen changes designed to reflect modern traffic patterns.
