Jaguar unveils first images of new Type 01 electric car ahead of official launch this year

Jaguar previously won the 2024 ABB FIA Formula E Teams' World Championship, with the brand using the Monaco E-Prix to debut one of the most highly anticipated EVs in the market.

The Type 01 name was announced last week, with the "0" representing the zero tailpipe emissions, the "1" denoting its status as the first Jaguar, while "Type" references the brand's historic model series.

Jaguar has touted the Type 01 as the "most advanced Jaguar ever" following its high-profile rebrand last year.

Rawdon Glover, managing director of Jaguar, said the model had been "reimagined for a new era", having taken inspiration from previous models.

He added: "Our engineers have achieved this with a vehicle that looks and drives like no other electric car, yet reflects a unique provenance.

"The Type 01 name is part of that story - for me, the zero also signifies a complete brand reset, and the '1', our first car for a new chapter, a 'one of a kind!'"

Jaguar confirmed that the Type 01 would benefit from tri‑motor technology, which delivers more than 1,000PS and over 1,300Nm of torque.

Further details are expected to be revealed later this year as Jaguar prepares to move into its new electric era.

The luxury four-door GT will "unite the brand's history of innovation in design, technology and performance".

Testing of the Type 01 was highlighted by Jaguar as receiving critical acclaim, with drives on frozen lakes in the Arctic Circle and test tracks across the UK.

Commenting on the brand's recent financial results, Jaguar CEO P.B. Balaji acknowledged how 2025 had been a challenging year, with revenue down 20.9 per cent year-on-year.

This was down to tariffs introduced by US President Donald Trump, tougher competition in China and the damaging cyber attack in September last year.

Despite this, Mr Balaji remained optimistic, noting that it remained committed to its customers, suppliers and retail partners.

"As we look ahead into FY27, we are focused on driving growth through our well-differentiated House of Brands and reducing our break-even volumes whilst we launch a slew of exciting products starting with the new Range Rover Electric, the unveiling of the first of our EMA products, and the eagerly awaited new Jaguar," he said.
