The fire broke out just before 8.15am this morning in Birmingham

A major fire has broken out at the Jaguar Land Rover factory in Birmingham this morning, with emergency services rushing to the site.

Around 50 firefighters are working on extinguishing the blaze with eight fire engines, and a hydraulic aerial platform being called out to help.


Fire services were called to the car plant on Chester Road this morning before 8.15am, with crews from nine different stations across the West Midlands responding to the incident.

The fire caused huge clouds of smoke to fill the sky, with West Midlands Fire Service, West Midlands Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service all working together to tackle the blaze.

Firefighters were forced to wear breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze inside the manufacturing plant due to the intensity of the flames, according to West Midlands Fire Service.

The fire brigade shared: "We responded to Chester Road in the Castle Vale area of Birmingham.

"The attending crews are from Ward End, Sheldon, Aston, Perry Barr, Hay Mills, Highgate, Handsworth, Smethwick, and Solihull stations."

The fire was brought under control relatively quickly, with West Midlands Fire Service confirming it had been extinguished shortly after 9.30am.

Despite the fire being put out, the fire service said that crews will remain at the scene to address any remaining hotspots and carry out ventilation work.

A driver who passed the site told Coventry Live: "There was a load of smoke coming from the building, going right up into the sky. I noticed it from miles away and then as I got closer realised it was the JLR building."

No injuries were reported in the incident, with West Midlands Fire Service confirming the situation was brought under control without casualties.

The factory employs 3,200 people and is situated on a 110-acre site, with a 60,000 square metres manufacturing facility.

A Jaguar Land Rover spokesperson told GB News: "West Midlands Fire Service attended a fire in a block at our Castle Bromwich site this morning.

"The incident was resolved quickly with no reported injuries. Fire teams remain at the scene to support investigations."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson added that they have a paramedic officer standing by supporting fire colleagues, but so fa,r "there are no patients".

Updating drivers on the incident, the fire service shared: "We have scaled down our resources at this incident to three fire engines and a 4×4 brigade response vehicle.

"Crews are on a watching brief to monitor and fully ventilate the affected unit. Fire Investigators are in attendance."

The incident has now been closed by the fire brigade, who will remain on site.
