The DVSA has outlined a number of changes being introduced to vehicle testing rules, including new rules being introduced today.
In a bid to improve efficiency in the vehicle testing process, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has introduced new changes to heavy vehicle testing.
In a blog, the DVSA said it was "confident" that the new changes would improve services offered to customers and keep roads safe.
While some of the changes were rolled out in January, February has also seen two new rules introduced, including one today (Friday, February 13).

Plating certificates - February 13
HGV operators will soon be able to download and print plating certificates for heavy goods vehicles for free.
The DVSA praised the development as motorists will not need to wait for the post, and will avoid paying any additional costs.
It can be accessed remotely from anywhere if drivers look through the MOT history service on GOV.UK.

Advance Driver and Assistance Systems (ADAS) visual checks - February 2
New visual inspections have been rolled out for heavy goods vehicle testing as the use of ADAS systems becomes more widespread.
This will include checks of sensors and cameras for security, damage, obstructions, and in some cases, operation. Similarly, checks will be made for ADAS-related malfunction indicator lamps (MILs).
The DVSA stated: "Looking at the condition and function of these systems will also help us gather better information to make more informed decisions about gathering information on these systems as part of the annual test, in the future."

PG10 prohibition clearance notices - February 2
The DVSA has digitised the PG10 form, which is used to confirm that a previously unroadworthy vehicle has been repaired and is now fit for road use.
Emails will be sent to the operator whose email is linked to the vehicle on the Vehicle Operator Licensing (VOL) system, alerting them to the change.
This is part of the DVSA's transition to digital services, which formed part of its Business Plan last year.

A new tool for testing door resistance on passenger service vehicles was introduced to minimise the risk of assessors being injured during testing.
It will allow assessors to "safely and consistently test door resistance", with the DVSA keeping safety protocols under constant review.
The new tool was preferred by 87 per cent of assessors in feedback, with most stating that it "ensured a safer and more consistent approach" at all test sites.
