Repeated reassurances from medical professionals left the patient convinced that the growth on her neck was harmless

A woman has spoken of her disbelief after receiving a cancer diagnosis after three years of doctors insisting that a prominent lump on her neck posed no cause for concern.

Taylor Scheib first observed the growth when she was 26 years old.

But despite undergoing numerous consultations, the mass continued to enlarge over the subsequent years.

It was only after she elected to have the 5.7cm growth surgically removed from the left side of her thyroid that pathology results delivered devastating news.

On April 28 2025, she received confirmation that she had oncocytic carcinoma of the thyroid gland.

Throughout the three years before her diagnosis, Taylor underwent extensive medical testing that consistently failed to identify the malignancy.

She attended appointments where she received two ultrasound examinations and blood work annually, yet on each occasion, physicians informed her that no further investigation was required.

Speaking about her experience on YouTube, she said: "How did I let this go on for so long? And that's because multiple doctors told me it was nothing.

"What happened was I thought it was benign, I thought it was nothing."

"I would just look at pictures of myself and think, 'Oh my gosh, this thing is so huge it's getting so big, and it's embarrassing.'"

Despite believing the lump to be benign, she ultimately chose to have it excised because it was expanding and causing her discomfort.

The diagnosis proved particularly poignant given her family circumstances.

In a moving revelation, she said: "I had to call my mum and tell her, you just beat cancer, but now I have it."

With both her mother and grandmother having previously faced the disease, Taylor acknowledged that cancer was not unfamiliar territory for her family.

Nevertheless, the diagnosis came as a profound shock after years of being told the growth was nothing to worry about.

Fortunately, physicians have indicated that Taylor's particular form of thyroid cancer is not highly invasive, so she remains optimistic

She acknowledged: "I have an incredible support system with my husband, family, and friends ... and I am truly positive I will be okay."
