A severe allergic reaction in her eye sent Sofia Vergara to the hospital on Sunday evening, preventing the actress from fulfilling her presenting duties at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards.
The 53-year-old performer was scheduled to appear at the ceremony at Los Angeles's Peacock Theater but experienced what she described as the "craziest eye allergy" moments before departing for the event.
The Modern Family actress documented her medical emergency on Instagram, posting photographs of her significantly swollen left eye and footage from her hospital visit.
"Didn't make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER," Vergara wrote on the social media platform.
The actress revealed that the allergic reaction occurred just as she was preparing to leave for the awards ceremony.
"Sorry I had to cancel! Craziest eye allergie right before getting in the car!" she posted alongside visual evidence of her condition. (sic)
Her Instagram carousel included video footage showing her rinsing her affected eye at a medical facility sink, with audible sounds of discomfort, and another clip depicting her resting on a hospital bed.
Fellow celebrities responded with concern, including America's Got Talent presenter Terry Crews, who commented: "Oh no! Get well soon!"
