Energy bills for a household with average usage are expected to rise this winter in line with Ofgem's recent hike to the price cap. As such, Britons are looking for ways to slash their gas and electricity bills.
Pensioners, who meet certain qualifying criteria, are able to claim Winter Fuel Payments, which offer eligible older Britons up to £300 in energy bill assistance.
However, younger people who have to contend with meager wages and a lack of savings are not entitled to the same Winter Fuel Allowance despite facing the same cost of living pressures.
