The lavish trip comes shortly after the singer was forced to cancel concerts over his health

Sir Rod Stewart and wife Penny Lancaster marked their 18th wedding anniversary with a luxurious trip just weeks after the rocker's health worries led to gig cancellations.

Fans of the Maggie May hitmaker were thrilled to see Stewart, 80, out and about to mark the special milestone.

The couple shared snaps of their experience on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, with the two dressed up in eye-catching outfits for the occasion.

Lancaster, 54, stunned in a floral print dress while Stewart donned a bright pink blazer and white trousers.

In the photo, which seems to have been taken just before the pair boarded the train, both are smiling for the camera, with Lancaster's arm wrapped around her husband.

The caption read: "Entering a bygone era @vsoetrain from Paris where we got engaged to Portofino where we got married 18 years ago, it’s totally magical @sirrodstewart xxxx."

A second picture showed Lancaster in the train, grinning broadly as she held up a sheet of paper reading "Paris to Portofino".

The model had written alongside the photo: "A dream come true for our wedding anniversary @sirrodstewart @vsoetrain."

Fans following the couple will have been aware that Stewart has been unwell recently, with the singer postponing a number of concerts.

He took to social media earlier this month to share his devastation at having to pull out of six further gigs after initially pulling out of a Caesars Palace performance.

"I have to cancel and reschedule my next six concerts in June as I continue to recover from the flu," Sir Rod wrote on the social media platform. "So sorry my friends."

Stewart expressed his deep disappointment about the postponements, which affect performances planned for the next eight days

"I'm devastated and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans. I'll be back on stage and will see you soon," he added, signing off with a broken heart emoji.

He seemed in good spirits as he enjoyed his anniversary celebrations with Lancaster though, prompting several relieved fans to share their delight over the singer seeming healthy and well.

"Congratulations and I hope Rod is feeling much better," one well-wisher wrote, with a second writing: "Your husband is ageless, looking good guys."

"You both look amazing. Congratulations to you both, this is real love," another commented.
