Sir Rod Stewart has launched a scathing criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of carrying out against the Palestinians what was once done to the Jewish people.

The legendary singer, who previously performed in Tel Aviv in 2017 despite calls to boycott Israel, claimed Netanyahu is pursuing the "annihilation" of the Palestinian population.

Stewart's comments come just a few months before the second anniversary of the Hamas October 7 attacks on the Israeli Nova festival. Netanyahu is also currently engaged in a conflict with the Iranian regime over its nuclear arms programme.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Times, the Scottish singer said: “Someone’s gotta do something.

“What Netanyahu is doing to the Palestinians is exactly what happened to the Jews. It’s annihilation, and that’s all he wants to do - get rid of them all. I don’t know how they sleep at night.”

In the same interview, Sir Rod also took aim at US President Donald Trump, revealing that he no longer considers the politician a friend.

Despite previously enjoying a friendly relationship, strengthened by their neighbourly ties in Florida, Stewart said his opinion of Trump has changed significantly since he took office.

The Maggie May singer explained the moment he drew a line under the friendship: “I can't count him as a friend anymore. As long as he’s selling arms to the Israelis - and he still is. How’s that war ever gonna stop?”

“And we should stop selling them as well,” he added, “What did Starmer say... they dropped the talks on trade? What f*** difference is that gonna make?”

This comes as Trump has demanded Iran's "unconditional surrender" as he teased US preparations for possible military action.

The conflict has entered its sixth day, with more Israeli strikes hitting Tehran in the early hours on Wednesday morning.

Israel began strikes on Iran at the end of last week after fears the regime was close to producing a nuclear weapon.

The US President had previously ruled out any involvement unless Iran deliberately targeted American assets or individuals.

Trump also made bold claims that Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei was an "east target" but would not be killed "at least for now".

Last night, Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu were understood to have had a phone call as the conflict raged on.

Trump, who said America's patience with Tehran's regime was running out, has increased pressure on the Middle Eastern nation by assembling warships and fighter jets in the region.

He aligned the United States with Israel, boasting that “we” have “total control of the skies over Iran”.

US strikes on targets inside Iran, including nuclear facilities, were "on the table", according to Trump.

His remarks come as Israel’s strikes on Iran marked a significant escalation in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian terror group Hamas infiltrated Israel, killing over 1,000 people and taking more than 250 hostage.

Currently, 53 hostages remain in Gaza, with at least 20 believed to still be alive.
