Ryan Hawley has spoken of his admiration for the creative team behind the Corriedale crossover, revealing he was completely taken aback by the quality of the episode, which aired tonight.

The Emmerdale actor singled out director Duncan Foster for particular praise, describing him as someone the entire cast has complete faith in.

"Everyone just enjoys working with him, because you just, you know, 100 per cent you can trust him, and he'll get a great performance out of you," Mr Hawley said.

Speaking to GB News and other media, he continued: "He knows absolutely everything. He knows how every moment is going to work."

The Emmerdale star was equally complimentary about screenwriter Owen Lloyd-Fox, whose contribution he felt often goes unrecognised.

"I was blown away by what I read and what I just seen now," he added.

Mr Hawley also made a candid confession about his relationship with viewing his own performances on television.

When questioned at the ITV press event about whether he regularly watches the day-to-day episodes, the actor confessed it isn't something he normally enjoys doing.

"The fact that you're asking me means that you know that I don't particularly," he replied, before being pressed further.

"I don't particularly enjoy the experience," Mr Hawley admitted.

However, the crossover special proved to be an exception, with the actor acknowledging he was genuinely impressed by his co-stars' work.

The actor enthused over the final product of the project, detailing how he found both the script and episode "incredible."

Coronation Street star Gareth Pierce, who plays Todd Grimshaw, offered his own perspective on the uncomfortable experience of watching oneself perform.

"It's a little bit like when you first hear your voice recorded for the first time," Mr Pierce explained.

"It's quite horrific when you listen to it back; that feeling never really leaves you as an actor. You just get a little bit more used to it."

Mr Pierce noted that the ensemble nature of the crossover meant none of the performers were so central to the plot that they couldn't step back and appreciate it as viewers themselves.

He also praised both Mr Lloyd-Fox and Mr Foster for capturing moments of humour and hope amid the drama.

The Corriedale crossover marked a historic moment in British soap history as Coronation Street and Emmerdale collided.

A multi-vehicle crash was the centre of the action, bringing characters from both programmes together in dramatic circumstances.

Executive producer Iain MacLeod has revealed that viewers had a direct say in the final cut through an interactive online poll, which remained open until just 15 minutes before transmission.

Four different character pairings were filmed, with fans choosing which duo appears in the broadcast version.
