Mr Gervais is best known for creating and starring in The Office, which was soon adapted into a US version. It became the most-watched US series of all time.
The Reading-born comedian has won seven Bafta awards and two Emmys. However, it's his work away from the screen that has landed him in the news of late.
Last month, Mr Gervais was left furious with "cowardly powers that be" for their persistent banning of his advert proposals for his drinks brand, Dutch Barn.
The comedian drafted a number of tongue-in-cheek billboards that he proposed be installed across London in order to promote the brand.

However, advertising bodies weren't as enthused by his controversial comedic takes as he was, putting a halt to many of the ads seeing the light of day.
Dutch Barn has since managed to have a handful of billboards and posters approved by the advertising bodies and can be seen across the capital now.
