Meg Mathews has addressed speculation about her early departure from Oasis's first reunion concert in 16 years at Cardiff's Principality Stadium on Friday night.

The former wife of Noel Gallagher was spotted leaving the venue during the band's encore, prompting media reports that focused on the timing of her exit.

Mathews took to Instagram over the weekend to clarify the situation, dismissing suggestions that her departure had any deeper significance as fans noted it had been during "her song".

Mathews explained that her decision to leave before the concert's conclusion was purely practical, aimed at avoiding the crowds that would flood out of the 70,000-capacity venue at the end of the show.

The 58-year-old's presence at the historic comeback gig had drawn attention from fans and media alike, particularly given her past connection to the band and its music.

The Britpop icons performed before more than 70,000 fans at the Principality Stadium, marking their first performance together since 2009.

The brothers walked on stage hand in hand before bowing to each other and launching into their opening song, Hello.

The extensive 23-track setlist featured classic hits including Roll With It, Stand By Me, Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova and Don't Look Back in Anger. Critics praised the performance, with NME awarding the historic night five stars.

Mathews attended alongside her daughter Anaïs, 25, who posted on Instagram that "it's good to be back", referencing the opening song's lyrics.

Anaïs, who will be photographing the band throughout their reunion tour, was seen enjoying the show with a pint whilst wearing an Oasis shirt.

In her own Instagram post, Mathews gave the performance "5 stars," adding: "loved every minute thank you Oasis... you were brilliant."

She stated it was "worth the countdown" before directly addressing the media coverage.

"And to all the F**king papers I left before the encore as I have left many a stadium at the end and it's carnage.....

"But yes I could hear 'Wonderwall' as I walked to my car! Happy now.." she wrote.

It had been reported that Mathews left during the encore shortly before Wonderwall, drawing particular attention to the timing given the song's connection to her.

However, her response made clear that avoiding post-concert crowds was her sole motivation for the early exit, a practice she follows at other stadium events.

Mathews was married to Noel from 1997 to 2001 and is the mother of his daughter Anaïs.

In a 1996 interview, Noel confirmed that Wonderwall was written about Mathews, saying: "It's about my girlfriend, Meg Mathews.

"She had a company which folded and she was feeling a bit sorry for herself. The sentiment is that there was no point in her feeling down, she has to sort my life out for me because I'm in bits had the time."
