The 33-year-old is reportedly all but confirmed as the next James Bond

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the man at the centre of discussion among film fans across the globe today after it was reported he'd been "offered" the role of James Bond.

The 33-year-old actor is reportedly ready to sign on the dotted line after being receiving a "formal offer" from Barbara Broccoli and Eon Productions.

However, the reports have sparked a serious debate among fans of Ian Fleming's iconic creation, with some slamming the decision while others have backed Taylor-Johnson to do well.

But who is Taylor-Johnson and why have Bond bosses decided he's the man to take over from Daniel Craig?

Born on June 13, 1990, British-born Taylor-Johnson began acting as a child in a number of TV and film roles.

In the early days of his career, Taylor-Johnson appeared in bit-part roles in several UK series - including The Bill, Casualty, Feather Boy and Armadillo.

In 2003, Hollywood came calling as Taylor-Johnson landed a role in the action-packed comedy Shanghai Knights, starring alongside the likes of Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson.

The teenager found himself on the global stage once again a few years later as part of the cast of the 2006 Oscar-nominated drama, The Illusionist.

For the next few years, more bit-part roles on UK TV followed until arguably his breakout role in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.

Taylor-Johnson played the lead love interest Robbie in the 2008 teenage flick and to this day, fans of the film still know the actor best for his role.

2009 threw the 18-year-old to global stardom when he played a young John Lennon in the biopic, Nowhere Boy, and a year later, Taylor-Johnson was leading the star-studded comic-book action movie, Kick-Ass.

It was while filming Nowhere Boy that a teenage Taylor-Johnson met his wife, film director Sam Taylor-Johnson, then 42.

The two married three years later on June 21, 2012 - a week after Taylor-Johnson's 22nd birthday.

The 2010s cemented Taylor-Johnson as one of the UK's leading talents in Hollywood, entering the Marvel Comic Universe as Quicksilver, bagging a BAFTA nod for Nocturnal Animals and teaming up with his wife on A Million Little Pieces.

And as if the Bond role wasn't enough to make the future bright for the now 33-year-old, he's also bagged the leading role in the hotly-anticipated fantasy thriller, Kraven the Hunter.

In his personal life, Taylor-Johnson and his wife share two children and he's the stepfather to his other half's two children from a previous marriage.
