The presenter revealed earlier this week he's been battling a chest infection while he continues treatment for cancer

Jonnie Irwin has been encouraged by fans to "look after himself" after admitting he tried to "ride out" his latest health woe.

The 49-year-old is currently living with terminal cancer after being diagnosed in 2020 and this week he's found himself trying to overcome a chest infection as well.

However, while Irwin admitted earlier this week he "should've stayed inside" to combat the infection as he shared a peek at a family day out, he's now revealed he refused to use antibiotics at first to combat the illness.

Irwin made the revelation on Tuesday evening when he posted a snap from the health and wellness centre where he was finally seeking help.

"Hitting my chest infection from all sides; antibiotics (I tried to ride it out but was getting worse)," Irwin admitted in an Instagram post alongside a handful of snaps from the location.

He continued: "2 hours this morning in my @o2worx hyperbaric chamber and now down at @sereniti_health breathing deeply in the Salt Room.

"So relaxing and got this place to myself! All wrapped up and relaxed.

"I feel I’ve got some great and knowledgeable people around me atm. #saltylips #alternativetherapies #healthspa #healthandwellness," he concluded.

With Irwin sounding like he's on the mend thanks to the treatment he's receiving for the infection, a number of fans were quick to encourage him to seek help sooner.

"You look amazing Jonnie! But don’t try to ride anything out," one worried fan commented in response. "If you need the antibiotics they’ll sort that chest infection out quickly.

"You are a total inspiration & your stories about your gorgeous boys never fail to brighten my day. I just want you to carry on like this for many many years to come xxx."

A second echoed the sentiment as they weighed in: "Keep on truckin' as Eddie Kendricks once sang..... You look after yourself, mate, keep taking everything they offer you.

"Glad you enjoyed the Salt bath. Sending strength and big hugs. Lotsa love," they added while a third commented: "Thinking of you. Get well soon. We are all 100% behind you."

A fourth also praised: "I’ve honestly thought how much better you have looked recently on your photos. You are doing amazingly."

While another added: "Jonnie you are an inspiration to us all. Keep fighting and I promise to do the same." (sic)

News of Irwin's infection broke on Monday after he'd accompanied his wife Jess and their three young boys to a day out pumpkin picking.

Alongside a collage of snaps from the adorable family day out, Irwin revealed: "Probs should’ve stayed inside with my chest infection but would’ve got too much FOMO missing out on visiting uncle @maccaholmes allotment.

"Sometimes I need a push and seeing the lads enjoy picking some apples, and pumpkins was superb. Unfortunately feeding @jessofjesmond obsession with Halloween is a downside!"

Irwin went public with his cancer diagnosis in late 2022 after the disease spread from his lung to his brain.

He's a familiar face on-screen having starred in A Place in the Sun, Morning Live, and Escape to the Country.

He even made a record-breaking return to ETTC last month for all-new episodes and sparked excitement earlier this month by revealing he's been busy filming for another on-screen project.
