The TV presenter stepped out in the chilly temperatures this past weekend

Jonnie Irwin has admitted he's recovering from a nasty chest infection as the UK sees temperatures take a nosedive from the warm climate of summer.

The 49-year-old is also living with terminal cancer, going public with the diagnosis after it spread from his lung to his brain in late 2022, and admitted he "probably should've stayed inside" in the wake of his latest health woe.

However, focusing on the upbeat side of things, Irwin stepped out for good reason as he spent quality family time with his wife Jess - with whom he recently marked an adorable milestone - and their three young sons.

Irwin and his other half took their boys pumpkin picking in the build-up to Halloween, with Irwin admitting he'd have had "FOMO" (fear of missing out) if wasn't able to attend.

He shared his latest update and health concern on Instagram alongside a collage of snaps from the day with his family.

Irwin penned: "Probs should’ve stayed inside with my chest infection but would’ve got too much FOMO missing out on visiting uncle @maccaholmes allotment.

"Sometimes I need a push and seeing the lads enjoy picking some apples, and pumpkins was superb," he continued.

Poking fun at his other half, Irwin added: "Unfortunately feeding @jessofjesmond obsession with Halloween is a downside! #allotment #homegrown #pumpkin #halloween #familytime #toon #greenfingers."

His wife Jess also took to Instagram to update her friends and followers on the adorable family day out.

"We all descended on Uncle Macca’s allotment to pick our pumpkins," she penned alongside another series of snaps. "Flask of tea and croissants meant 2 hours of lovely bright family fun."

Inevitably, it didn't take long for Irwin's fans to flock to the comments of the post to wish him well amid his latest battle with ill-health.

One fan commented in response: "Such precious time with your boys," followed by a love heart emoji.

While a second echoed: "Many blessings prayers & strength. Enjoy your precious family and many many more times together."

Elsewhere, a third weighed in: "I’ve never seen so many pumpkins growing and the look perfect. Glad you enjoyed your day," again followed by love heart emojis. (sic)

Irwin's chest infection couldn't have come at a worse time given the presenter has confirmed he'll be returning to screens soon once again.

The presenter made a record-smashing return to TV last month as part of the BBC series Escape to the Country and confirmed earlier this month he's filmed some new footage for Morning Live.

Irwin could barely hide his excitement at the prospect of returning to the career he loves as he penned alongside a snap of him filming: "So good to be back filming for @bbcmorninglive.

"We’ve just shot to short films about renovating your home and what to look out for. I think my smug smile betrays the lack of a massive commute for once and the extra couple of hours I got in my scratcher as we filmed in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

"I’ll let you know when they are due to go out, when I know myself."
