The TV host didn't hold back during his weekly evening monologue

Jimmy Kimmel took aim at President Donald Trump during his Tuesday evening monologue, ridiculing the commander-in-chief for failing to attend his eldest son's nuptials in the Caribbean.

Donald Trump Jr tied the knot with Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson on Saturday at an intimate gathering on a private Bahamian island, with roughly 40 guests present.

The president's other children—Ivanka, Eric and Tiffany Trump—all attended the ceremony, but their father was conspicuously absent.

"See, he can be warm when he wants to," Kimmel quipped on Jimmy Kimmel Live! "He loves Don Jr. He just loves the United States more."

Mr Kimmel proceeded to read aloud the President's explanation, which Mr Trump had posted on Truth Social ahead of the ceremony.

"While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so," the President had written.

The comedian then delivered a pointed reference to Mr Trump's former association with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, drawing audible gasps from the studio audience.

"He had circumstances pertaining to government to get to, and also flying to a private island makes him miss his friend Jeffrey, who he lost," Mr Kimmel remarked.

Mr Kimmel went on to highlight the apparent contradiction in Trump's schedule, noting the president regularly finds time for leisure activities despite his stated governmental obligations.

"This is a guy who golfs two, three times a week. He's going to UFC fights with Vanilla Ice. He was too busy for his son's wedding," the host observed.

The comedian also took a swipe at Mr Trump's marital history, remarking that the President had assured the newlyweds they would enjoy a wonderful marriage—"and this is a man who knows a great marriage. He's had three of them himself."

Mr Kimmel also addressed reports that Mr Trump Jr and his new bride are planning a subsequent celebration at the White House in the autumn, with both the President and First Lady Melania Trump expected to be present.

"Well, you'd hope so. They live there," the host remarked. "Can you imagine if they didn't show up to that one, too? 'We wanted to make it, but we were unable to go downstairs.'"

Prior to his marriage to Anderson, Me Trump Jr was wed to Vanessa Trump until their 2018 divorce, with whom he has five children.

He was subsequently engaged to Kimberly Guilfoyle, the former Fox News presenter and ex-wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom.
