The Clarkson Farm star reignited a feud from his original tweet in 2022

Jeremy Clarkson has doubled down on a historic post on X in which he branded socialists “disgusting people”, this time claiming they “execute millions of people” who do not agree with them.

The former Top Gear host, 65, took to the platform to respond to a fresh comment on his original 2022 post, which read: “Twitter is a handy and constant reminder that socialists are disgusting people.”

At the time, the post was widely believed to be a reference to reactions to the death of Queen Elizabeth II among left-wing republicans.

The remarks sparked a furious reaction online, including from actor Sean Biggerstaff, who portrayed Oliver Wood in the Harry Potter films.

“Shut the f*** up you rancid old thug,” he wrote.

The new comment read: “Socialists don’t punch colleagues because complimentary food is cold,” to which Mr Clarkson replied: “No. They execute the millions of people who don’t agree with them.”

The X user appeared to be referencing a 2015 incident in which the TV presenter was forced to apologise to a Top Gear producer he punched, after settling a £100,000 racial discrimination and injury claim, which is said to have ultimately led to his departure from the BBC motoring show Top Gear.

Social media users were quick to weigh in on the political spat.

One viewer asked: “Socialists or communists, Jeremy? Either way, you’re still the one who punched a colleague in the face over not getting hot food. Much more capitalist to just starve people to death, eh?”

However, many came to the defence of the Diddly Squat Farm Shop owner.

“I bet when he wrote that he thought: ‘This will show that Clarkson!’ Without a thought in his head as to his own position,” one user wrote, referring to the new comment, while another penned: “Petulance is their downfall.”

A third supporter described Mr Clarkson’s comment as a “truth bomb”.

The TV host has long been vocal in his opposition to Marxism and socialism and has recently been embroiled in a public feud with Mr Zack Polanski, the leader of the Green Party.

The row intensified in late 2024 and into 2025 after Mr Polanski proposed a one per cent wealth tax on billionaires to tackle economic inequality.

Mr Clarkson responded with a series of personal jabs in his Sunday Times columns, mocking Mr Polanski’s appearance and branding him “Captain Teeth” and a “snaggletoothed vegan”, even joking that he looks like someone who takes photos of Shane MacGowan to the dentist.

Beyond the insults, Mr Clarkson dismissed the proposed wealth tax as “batty”, arguing it would drive wealthy philanthropists and entrepreneurs out of the UK and into tax havens such as Monte Carlo.

The clash fits into Mr Clarkson’s broader criticism of left-wing politics, which he regularly attacks across his media platforms.

He has previously labelled Prime Minister Mr Starmer and Chancellor Ms Reeves as “Marxists”, accusing Labour of attempting to “squeeze” entrepreneurs through taxation.

Mr Clarkson has been particularly outspoken about Labour’s proposed changes to inheritance tax on farms, warning they would deal serious damage to British agriculture.

Often referencing his experience of the 1970s, he argues that socialist policies inevitably lead to economic decline, at one point comparing the ideology to a mix of Cold War–era Eastern Europe and present-day Venezuela.

He has repeatedly described himself as a libertarian, saying he believes the government should largely stay out of people’s lives, beyond carrying out basic public duties.

The broadcaster has also regularly aimed criticism at London and its mayor, Sir Sadiq Khan.

In a 2024 newspaper column, the former Top Gear presenter said he struggled to fairly assess a new Suzuki Swift because of the widespread introduction of 20mph speed limits.

He explained that the car’s constant warning sounds and flashing dashboard alerts quickly became distracting.

Writing in The Times, he said: “And the only way to stop this from happening is to stare, constantly, at your speedo. Which means you are not looking where you are going.”

Turning his attention to the expansion of blanket speed restrictions, Mr Clarkson initially directed his criticism at the Welsh government.

He wrote: “As you may have heard, the socialists in Wales imposed a blanket 20mph speed limit on all residential streets recently.

"And then, after 500,000 people, which is almost everyone, signed a petition, the politburo backed down, saying limits would be up to local authorities.”

He then appeared to take a swipe at London mayor Mr Sadiq Khan, adding: “In London, which is even more socialist, I know people who’ve lost their driving licences after reaching 12 points.”
