Chappel Roan has broken her silence after intense backlash to her choice of attire to the Grammys on Sunday, after she was accused of showing "no class" with an "inappropriate" wardrobe choice.
The Pink Pony Club singer shocked the public when she stepped out onto the red carpet wearing custom deep red garnet draped piercing georgette négligée dress and cape, designed by Miguel Castro Freitas, revealing a matching mesh dress hung from two nipple rings.
The backlash was fierce on social media. One user on wrote on X: "Chappell Roan has taken things too far. I’m all for one for freedom of expression, but at this point, our culture needs some type of moral boundaries." Another said that the dress "looks painful".
"This dress is so inappropriate" a third critic wrote, while a fourth added: "WHAT is she wearing?"

Ms Roan took to her personal Instagram account on Tuesday to acknowledge the backlash.
Posting a carousel of photos of herself in the controversial dress, the star wrote: "Giggling because I don’t even think this is THAT outrageous of an outfit. The look’s actually so awesome and weird. I recommend just exercising your free will it’s really fun and silly."

The Good Luck, Babe singer was nominated for two Grammys, Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, both for her July 2025 hit The Subway. However, she went left with no awards.
Instead, Record of the Year went to Kendrick Lamar’s Luther and Best Pop Solo Performance went to Lola Young’s Messy.
Despite leaving empty-handed, it's fair to say that the 27-year-old had one of the most talked-about dresses of the night.

Aside from the revealing nature, the gown also showed off her temporary body art, including a pony on her chest and a giant temporary tattoo of a lace panel on her back.
This isn't the first time the singer has found herself in hot water with the public.
Ahead of the 2024 US Presidential Election, Ms Roan faced intense backlash online for refusing to endorse Kamala Harris.
In a viral interview with The Guardian, she stated there were "problems on both sides".
After clarifying that she would be voting for Harris but still would not give a formal endorsement, she drew further criticism for mispronouncing the candidate's name in a follow-up TikTok.
She also recently sparked a large online debate after posting TikToks in August 2024 calling out "creepy" and "predatory" fan behavior towards her.
The musician explicitly told fans she is a "random b*****" and does not owe them photos or hugs just because they like her music.
While many praised her for setting healthy boundaries, some hurt fans labelled her "ungrateful".
