Jeff Bezos was “ripped off” after he bought a bottle of wine for more than $4,000, an American wine merchant has claimed.
The billionaire Amazon founder selected a bottle of Dugat-Py Grand Cru from Domaine Bernard to toast his engagement to Lauren Sánchez last week.
But Parcelle Wine, which is based in New York, said Bezos got a bad deal on the reported $4,285 cost for the bottle he enjoyed at La Petite Maison in Cannes.
“Wine fact of the day: Bezos knows less than you and got mega ripped off in France,” the company wrote on its Instagram account.

The couple drank the rare Burgundy while out with Bezos’s sister, Christina Bezos Poore, and her husband, Steve Poore, in a vine-covered terrace.
Parcelle and other social media users mocked Bezos’s purchase as they joked “Love is blind.”
A wine source claims that the particular bottle last sold at auction on March 3, 2022, for $647.29, which included a 20 per cent buyer’s premium.
“The wine, Chambertin, is from the fabled Chambertin vineyard in the Cote D’Or section in Burgundy. This vineyard is one of the most revered in the world,” a North Fork wholesale wine expert told The Post.
They added that the producer, Dugat-Py, “makes about 220 bottles of it a year, about one barrel.”
Bezos proposed to Sanchez with a ring estimated to be worth upward of $2.5 million.
Earlier this week, his $500 million sailing schooner was spotted in the Mediterranean alongside a support boat with its own helipad.
Abeona, reportedly named after the Roman goddess of outward journeys, is a 246ft motor yacht which can cruise 5,000 miles on a tank of fuel.

The couple have been in the south of France for the Cannes film festival while staying on the vessel.
Bezos and Sanchez publicly acknowledged their relationship in 2019 after Bezos divorced his wife of 25 years, MacKenzie Scott.
Since then the duo have often been seen at celebrity gatherings.
