The bookies shifted Bond odds as Wuthering Heights star surges ahead

Callum Turner’s hopes of becoming the next James Bond have taken a hit, with a new favourite now emerging for the iconic role, according to William Hill.

Mr Turner, previously the market leader at 7/10, has seen his odds drift to 6/4 following the release of Wuthering Heights, which has propelled Australian actor Jacob Elordi from a 14/1 outsider to the 5/4 frontrunner in just weeks.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson (11/2) and Theo James (15/2) complete the top four in the betting, while co-star Margot Robbie is now 6/1 to become the next Bond girl.

William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said: “There’s been a big shake up in the search for the next James Bond actor in the past 24 hours, with Jacob Elordi our new outright favourite.

"Mr Elordi was considered an outsider for the role last month but saw his price slashed from 14/1 to 4/1 last week following the release of Wuthering Heights.

"However, those odds have taken another tumble this morning and the Australian is the new 5/4 frontrunner, dethroning previous market leader Callum Turner (6/4).

"The Wuthering Heights fallout has also seen Margot Robbie leap into contention to be the next Bond girl – we’re 6/1 for that to happen.”

The revelation comes as debate among the James Bond fandom intensified following reports that Mr Elordi has been offered the role.

Celebrity gossip account DeuxMoi reignited speculation, claiming Amazon has extended an offer to Mr Elordi for Denis Villeneuve’s Bond 26.

"Jacob Elordi as Bond has been a long standing rumor," the account wrote.

They added: "Amazon have offered Elordi the bond role. Filming starts in October this year."

Several other showbiz blogs reported that Mr Elordi has met with producers and Mr Villeneuve about the project, though no official announcement has been made.

If confirmed, the 28-year-old Brisbane-born actor would be the youngest and tallest 007 at 6ft 5in, and only the second Australian to play the role after George Lazenby.

Mr Elordi’s profile has risen sharply thanks to HBO’s Euphoria and his current role opposite Margot Robbie in Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights, which grossed $83 million (£60.5 million) on an $80 million (£63 million) budget.

Despite his acclaim, the alleged casting has divided fans online, with some urging producers to "keep Bond British".

"I would rather see Idris Alba as James Bond," one critic wrote on X, while another penned: "There were so many great British Actors to choose from."

Another fan of the franchise declared: "We want Timothée Chalamet to play the next James Bond."

However, some took a more balanced view of the potential Bond casting.

"Nobody is wrong for any role. It depends on the script," one fan penned.

When asked about Bond rumours in 2023, Mr Elordi said: "That's beautiful… I just like that people may want to put me in their movies. That makes me really glad."

Bond 26 will be directed by Mr Villeneuve from a Steven Knight screenplay, with filming expected in late 2026 or early 2027 and a 2028 release.
