Viewers were unimpressed by the ITV judging panel's final decision in the series

Viewers of ITV's The Masked Singer have expressed their frustration following Saturday's finale, with many slamming what they called a "ludicrous decision" by the judging panel.

The seventh series concluded this evening with singer Mica Paris being unmasked as Toastie after finishing in third place, missing out on a spot in the final two.

Fans took to social media to voice their frustration at the elimination, with many viewers declaring themselves unimpressed that Toastie failed to make it further into the final show.

The celebrity panel, made up of Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan and Maya Jama, offered their final guesses before Paris removed her elaborate costume to reveal her identity.

The backlash came swiftly as audiences questioned the judges' assessment of the performances.

The three remaining contestants took to the stage for one final time, each delivering energetic performances for the panel.

Moth performed the power ballad I Want to Know What Love Is, whilst Conkers opted for Five's upbeat track Keep On Movin'.

Toastie, who would ultimately be eliminated, gave a passionate rendition of A Star is Born before learning her fate.

Fans weren't pleased, with social media abuzz with complaints about Toastie's earlier departure.

One angry fan penned: "Ludicrous decision should have been Toastie vs Moth in the final. Imagine not putting Mica Paris into the final for the sake of some bloke dressed like a Conker who can't f****** sing."

"Feeling annoyed that Conkers beat Toastie," another declared.

Someone else echoed: "Bonkers that Conkers beat Toastie! #themaskedsinger."

Another asked: "Toastie out above Conkers? WHAT?! #TheMaskedSinger."

Someone else posted: "Toastie was the legendary Mica Paris! #maskedsingeruk #maskedsinger."

"Toastie has an amazing voice! Love the gravel! #TheMaskedSinger," one more added.

Throughout the series, Conkers had impressed judges with an enthusiastic approach, previously performing tracks including Nice to Meet You by Myles Smith, Jump Around by House of Pain, and One Direction's History.

The character also delivered Everybody in Love by JLS and I'm A Believer by Smash Mouth during earlier rounds.

Despite Toastie's strong performance, the panel's decision saw Mica Paris depart before the final showdown between Moth and Conkers.

Fans were keen to tune into the episode, which would finally reveal the remaining anonymous celebrities.

The One Show presenter Alex Jones and rapper Professor Green were the first to be unmasked in this year's show, having performed as Disc Jockey and Teabag respectively.

Musicians John Lydon and Marcella Detroit followed, emerging from behind the Yak and Gargoyle disguises.

A double elimination then saw Kate Nash and Strictly Come Dancing's Anton Du Beke revealed as Monkey Business and Arctic Fox.

Comedian Harry Hill had been hiding beneath the Red Panda costume, whilst the semi-final brought two further surprises.

Countryfile presenter Ben Fogle was unmasked as Sloth, with JLS singer Marvin Humes discovered to be Can of Worms, setting up tonight's three-way finale between Moth, Conkers and the now-eliminated Toastie.

Conkers, who came in second place, was revealed to be Ben Shephard, while winner Moth was unveiled as Keisha Buchanan.
