The former This Morning host is set to return to screens

Holly Willoughby has agreed to return to Dancing on Ice in the New Year following months of speculation surrounding her future on the show.

The 42-year-old quit her role on fellow ITV show This Morning back in October, leading to rumours she'd soon be stepping down from Dancing on Ice.

However, according to the Mirror, after "many discussions and a lot of thought", Willoughby has decided to return.

An insider told the publication: "ITV are delighted to have Holly back. Stephen [Mulhern] is a good friend of hers too so she will enjoy working with him again."

ITV has since confirmed the reports and Willoughby will return to her role as presenter on the skating competition - although Thursday's This Morning decided to snub any mention of Willoughby's comeback.

Willoughby has spent the past few months out of the public eye to focus on her family after she learned of an alleged plot to kidnap and murder her.

Phillip Schofield had fronted Dancing on Ice alongside Willoughby but quit ITV for good earlier this year following an admission he lied to bosses about an "unwise but not illegal" relationship with a member of This Morning staff.

Speaking on Willoughby's return, Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at ITV, said: “Holly and Stephen are two of our best-loved presenters, so reuniting them 20 years after they first appeared on screen together to host Dancing on Ice marks the start of an exciting year for the show.”

As well as Willoughby, the Dancing on Ice judging panel will see the return of Ashley Banjo, Oti Mabuse, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

It will also mark the first time Mabuse has returned to screens since giving birth to her first child earlier this month.

When Willoughby returns to the rink, she and Mulhern will introduce a new cast of famous faces who've signed up to take part in the 2024 contest.

The full line-up for the next series is as follows:

  • Ricky Hatton MBE
  • Claire Sweeney
  • Hannah Spearritt
  • Amber Davies
  • Greg Rutherford MBE
  • Miles Nazaire
  • Lou Sanders
  • Ricky Norwood
  • Adele Roberts
  • Roxy Shahidi
  • Ryan Thomas
  • Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards

Gogglebox star Stephen Lustig-Webb had initially signed up to compete but was forced to withdraw with injury as Edwards took his spot.

News of Willoughby's return garnered plenty of support from DOI fans following a turbulent 2023, with one stating on X, formerly Twitter: "#HollyWilloughby will be returning to #dancingonice.

"I for one am happy too see her on my screen again. She has had too much hate in 2023... Hoping for plenty of laughs by her in 2024."

And another simply applauded: "Welcome back @hollywills." (sic)
