Esther Rantzen issues sweet tribute to Jeremy Clarkson amid health battle: 'Facing real challenges'

Esther Rantzen shared a glowing review of Jeremy Clarkson’s docuseries as she paid tribute to the broadcaster.
Ms Rantzen, 85, has been battling stage four lung cancer since her diagnosis in January 2023.
She has since become a member of Dignitas, the Swiss assisted dying organisation, expressing her wish for a dignified end should her medical situation deteriorate significantly.
Amid her ongoing battle, she shared a tribute to Mr Clarkson, 65.
Opening up on how television can be a great tool in informing the public and raising awareness, she noted how Chris McCausland’s Strictly Come Dancing win last year “challenged every preconception about blindness”.
She went on to point out the work Mr Clarkson is doing with his farming series, Clarkson’s Farm.
“Clarkson’s Farm has also been formative in changing attitudes, showing us urban ignoramuses the struggle involved in creating a farm,” she reflected.
Speaking to Radio Times, the former That’s Life! Presenter added: “Although I’ve never been a fan of Top Gear, I’ve always been a fan of Jeremy Clarkson as a unique broadcaster.

When asked if such programmes can make aa difference, Dame Rantzen replied: “It certainly can.
“Lord Reith talked about entertainment and information being the goals of broadcasting.
“To this I’d add the enormous pleasure of watching people with a passion for what they do achieving far more than they themselves ever expected.”

Clarkson's Farm has highlighted the difficulties faced by those in the industry, especially this year.

The show, which is currently filming for its fifth series, follows father-of-three Mr Cooper as he aids former Top Gear star Mr Clarkson at the Costwolds farm.
Since shooting to fame, Mr Cooper has also released several books, with his debut children's book, Kaleb's Farmyard Tales, scheduled to hit the shops this week.
