The footballing legend is set to receive the honour from King Charles after years of being snubbed

Eamonn Holmes has heaped praise on football legend David Beckham, following reports that the star will finally receive a knighthood from King Charles.

According to reports, the former England captain, 50, will become Sir David after years of being overlooked for the honour.

The honour sparks years of controversy surrounding Beckham and the Royal Family, after leaked emails allegedly from the star in 2017.

Beckham is claimed to have vented his fury at being overlooked for the honour, labelling the committee a "bunch of c***s" and slamming the honours system as a "f**king joke".

He allegedly said: "I expected nothing less... Who decides on the honours? It's a disgrace to be honest and if I was American I would of [sic] got something like this 10 years ago... It's p***ed me off those old unappreciative c***s."

Eamonn then admitted he believes Beckham "thinks I don't like him", after the presenter defended Sir Alex Ferguson for accidentally kicking a boot at Beckham back in 2003.

Eamonn explained: "He's a very nice, very humble guy. He thinks I don't like him because I defended Fergie with the boot slinging incident.

"I don't believe anybody is bigger than the manager, and I do think the manager has the last shout on that. And I do think Fergie is just God, the be all and end all."

Eamonn added: "But I have nothing against the fella and I think he's a tremendous ambassador and a brilliant footballer, so there we go."

Discussing the reports on GB News, Breakfast host Eamonn Holmes recalled seeing Beckham interact with the fans at the peak of his career, claiming he would "always sign autographs" and interact with them.

Reflecting on his time working with football clubs, Eamonn revealed: "I used to do a lot of work around the club and whatever it is, and I could name players who just walked past fans, wear headphones, and they would never sign autographs.

"And people like who you wouldn't think like Eric Cantona, would sign everything in front of him."

Praising Beckham in particular, Eamonn told his GB News cohost Anne Diamond: "David Beckham, the biggest star there is, would never shun or turn on a request from a fan, and I think that sort of says it all to me.
