The 24-year-old artist vented her frustration on Instagram, saying strangers offered more support than friends as she marked her father’s birthday

Alexandria "Lexi" Jones, the 24-year-old daughter of David Bowie, has publicly criticised her friends for failing to reach out on what would have been her father's 79th birthday.

The artist took to Instagram on Friday to express her frustration, sharing a selfie alongside a pointed message.

"Thank you to all the people I don't know who wished me condolences, and f*** you to all of my friends who never texted me at all," she wrote.

Ms Jones, whose full name is Alexandria Zahra Jones, added: "I got 1 text! F**** all y'all."

The outburst came just days before the tenth anniversary of the legendary musician's death, with strangers offering more support than those in her personal circle.

Mr Bowie passed away at his New York City residence on January 10 2016, following an 18-month battle with liver cancer that he had kept hidden from the public.

The iconic musician died just two days after celebrating his 69th birthday, with his final album Blackstar released on the same day.

He shared his Manhattan home with wife Iman and their daughter at the time of his death.

The tenth anniversary of his passing falls on Saturday, making this week particularly significant for the family.

Mr Bowie was diagnosed with cancer two years before his death and underwent chemotherapy whilst recording his final record.

In November 2015, he was informed that his cancer was inoperable, yet he continued to keep his illness private until the end.

Earlier on Thursday, Ms Jones had posted a touching tribute to her father on Instagram, sharing throwback photographs from one of his previous birthday celebrations.

The images showed a young Ms Jones holding a birthday cake whilst sitting beside Bowie, who was smiling warmly at the camera.

"Da big 79 today. Happy birthday pops, miss ya!" she captioned the post, accompanied by a blue heart emoji.

The candid snapshots offered a rare glimpse into Mr Bowie's private family life, which he famously kept away from public scrutiny.

Fans and fellow musicians quickly responded to the post with messages of love and support, touched by the intimate moment between father and daughter.

Such personal photographs of the "Heroes" singer are seldom shared, making the tribute particularly poignant for his devoted followers.

Iman, the 70-year-old supermodel who was married to Mr Bowie from 1992 until his death, shared her own tribute on the same day.

Posting a black-and-white photograph of her late husband on Instagram, she wrote: "Happy Heavenly Birthday. Your light burns so bright in all our hearts! We love and miss you."

The couple first met on a blind date in 1990, arranged by their mutual friend, hairdresser Teddy Antolin.

Mr Bowie later described the encounter as love at first sight, saying his attraction to Iman was "immediate and all-encompassing" and that he "couldn't sleep for the excitement" of their first date.

They wed during a private civil ceremony in Lausanne, Switzerland, in April 1992, followed by a larger celebration in Florence, Italy, that June.

Iman has previously stated that she still feels married to Mr Bowie, telling People in 2021: "He's not my late husband. He's my husband."

Ms Jones' emotional outburst came after she revealed in August that she had been diagnosed with autism following what she described as a "long and exhausting journey" to obtain professional help.

The 25-year-old has spoken openly about spending her entire life feeling different and struggling to fit in, explaining that she had become adept at "masking" her natural traits to appear more neurotypical.

Meanwhile, it was announced this week that the late singer's former childhood home in Bromley, south-east London, where he penned Space Oddity, will open to the public as an immersive experience.

The property at 4 Plaistow Grove, where Mr Bowie resided from age eight to 20, has been acquired by Heritage of London Trust, with plans to restore it to its early 1960s appearance.
