Ben Leo has received public praise from Irish writer and gender-critical campaigner Graham Linehan following his explosive on-air clash with pro-trans clinician Dr Helen Webberley.
The exchange, which took place during a segment on puberty blockers for under-18s on GB News’ The Late Show Live, quickly turned heated as Ben confronted the GenderGP founder over her stance on prescribing hormonal drugs to minors.
Dr Webberley defended the controversial practice in parts of the United States, including California and New York, insisting that “transgender children are not automatically vulnerable”.
The GB News fan-favourite challenged her over whether clinics were “profiteering off the back of vulnerable children”, prompting a tense response.

Ben Leo confronted Dr Helen Webberley on support for prescribing puberty blockers to children

The pro-trans clinician accused the presenter of contributing to a hostile climate, telling him: “This kind of conversation makes them extremely vulnerable.”
The debate escalated when the pair discussed Ben's two-year-old son and the question of childhood boundaries.
Dr Webberley suggested she “felt sorry” for the child, arguing: “Two is an amazing age to explore. Why aren’t we letting our children explore?”
Ben hit back sharply: “He’s two years old. Leave the children alone. Let them be innocent.”
The confrontation deepened as Dr Webberley warned Ben he would “one day” know a transgender person and would regret his position.
The GB News presenter responded by criticising her clinical approach and referencing the history of her husband’s medical disciplinary action, telling her: “I think you’re very dangerous… I’d say borderline evil.”

Mr Linehan weighed in shortly after the interview aired, posting on X: “Great work by @benleo444. This is the interview she’s been dreading,” echoing viewers who had applauded the presenter’s hard line of questioning.
Viewers took to X to share their reactions.
“Wow! Well done Ben. Simple facts and she folded,” one viewer commented, while another wrote: “She claims to ‘care’, but is happy for confused young people to be pumped (!) with life-changing drugs at a young age — with zero informed consent — when they’re not old enough to drink alcohol, smoke, drive a vehicle, have sex, etc.”
Another viewer shared their personal experience, writing: “When I was aged 5 to 10 I grew up around all boys. I begged my parents to let me be a boy persistently for 2 years. I truly believed I was meant to be a boy. My parents laughed it off… I’m so glad they did. I now love being a woman and mother of 6 beautiful adults.”

A fourth viewer added: “My grandson said he was a cat. His mum told him he wasn’t, he was a boy. He cried. They agreed he could be a cat for the day and go back to being a boy the next day. He forgot within an hour that he was meant to be a cat.”
A fifth chimed in: “Aye, when it comes to kids, feelings don’t cut it. We need proper discussions backed by science and care, not just fiery exchanges. What’s really best for their well-being here?”
Dennis Noel, Kavanagh Director of the Gay Man's Network, which holds a critical view of certain aspects of transgender ideology, said: “Well done @benleo444 — this is proper journalism and you came armed with the facts. Thank you.”
In the UK, puberty blockers are banned for under-18s following recommendations from the Cass Review and further evidence reviews by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
Health Secretary Wes Streeting has previously described the historic use of the drugs as a “scandal”. The current ban will be reviewed in 2027.
Mr Linehan’s praise for Ben comes just days after he was involved in a separate public row with TV presenter Victoria Coren Mitchell, following his criticism of a contestant on Only Connect.
Ms Coren Mitchell pushed back against what she described as his “relentless messages”, sparking widespread debate online about women’s rights, trans activism and online harassment.
Mr Linehan, formerly known for his comedy work on Father Ted and The IT Crowd, has become a prominent gender-critical campaigner in recent years.
He has frequently criticised broadcasters and public figures he believes avoid addressing the impact of gender ideology on women’s spaces, children’s safeguarding and healthcare.
