Anne Hegerty hits back at fury to 'insensitive' Charlie Kirk comments as ITV The Chase star rages at 'utter morons'

Anne Hegerty has branded certain social media users "utter morons" in a new post after several took issue with her reaction to Charlie Kirk's death last week.
On September 10, the 31-year-old political activist was shot in the neck at a speaking event in Utah. The main suspect, Tyler Robinson, was arrested a few days later and remains in custody.
Ms Hegerty took to X in the days after Mr Kirk's death to share her opinions on the shooting and the political activist's character.
In her first social media post on the killing shared on September 12, Ms Hegerty penned: "I had never heard of Charlie Kirk before Wed night.

"Had we met, my end of the conversation would have been ‘You just said WHAT?’ and ‘Scuse me, those are my FRIENDS you’re talking about.’ I join Bernie Sanders in deploring his murder."
The remarks sparked widespread outrage, with The Chase quizzer being branded "self-righteous", "horrid", "sickening", and "insensitive" for her comments.
In the days that followed, Ms Hegerty continued to double down on her stance and attempt to clarify her comments.
"I hope Tyler Robinson gets the death penalty IS THAT CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU #idiots," she commented on September 17 in response to a comedy sketch mocking celebrities workshopping their public responses to Mr Kirk's assassination.

Once again, Ms Hegerty came under fire, with some X users branding her "patronising" for again wading into the public debate about Mr Kirk's death.
Now, on the eve of Mr Kirk's Sunday funeral, Ms Hegerty reignited the conversation surrounding her social media comments once again in a fresh series of posts attacking her critics.
In the first of two X posts, Ms Hegerty raged: "Let's try this, shall we? 'I had never heard of Charlie Kirk before Wed night. SO NATURALLY I THEN WENT AND READ ABOUT HIM, AS YOU WOULD EXPECT ME TO DO. Had we met, my end of the conversation would have been ‘You just said WHAT?’ and ..."
In her second post, she added: "‘Scuse me, those are my FRIENDS you’re talking about.’ HAVING SAID THAT, I join Bernie Sanders in deploring his murder.'

When asked by an X user what Mr Kirk had supposedly said about her "friends", Ms Hegerty replied: "Let's just say he wouldn't have been crazy about some of them getting married."
She also replied to another user criticising her comments, saying: "I said I deplored his murder. Is 'deplored' a difficult word for you?"
Ms Hegerty's continued tirade against social media users came just 24 hours before Mr Kirk's funeral in Arizona.

Thousands turned out to his memorial service at State Farm Stadium, which began at 7pm (BST).
A number of politicians and key figures also spoke at the event, including Donald Trump and US Vice President JD Vance.
