The 33-year-old dancer has been battling cancer since May

Amy Dowden has shared an emotional post revealing another health woe just days after she completed her course of chemotherapy treatment.

The Strictly Come Dancing star - who'd been hoping to make a return to the dancefloor later this year - has revealed a 2023 comeback is off the cards after breaking her foot.

Sharing a photo of herself wearing a protective boot, Dowden heartbreakingly wrote: "Not the week I was hoping for since finishing chemo.

"Port out but unfortunately gained a boot for a fractured foot," she added following by a broken heart emoji.

She shared: "Absolutely gutted and heartbroken as this means the plans for me to dance in the Strictly Ballroom this year are no longer possible.

"This is what has kept me going the past few months."

She signed off: "2023 is certainly not my year, roll on 2024 I say! #noluck #nyluckwillsoonchange #mycancerjourney #brokenfoot #fracture #heartbroken #gutted #rollon2024."

A number of fans and famous faces have rushed to show their support for Dowden in what's undoubtedly an emotional time for the professional dancer.

Former Strictly pro and It Takes Two host Janette Manrara replied to the Instagram post: "Oh no! Well in that case 2024 could not be coming sooner!"

While Amanda Abbington - who quit this year's series for "personal reasons" - added: "Sending you the most love!!! Rest up beautiful girl," followed by a number of love heart emojis.

And former Strictly competitor Colin Jackson weighed in: "Oh gutted for you, but yes, 2024 will be so much better."

Dowden announced after being told of her diagnosis that she'd have to pull out of this year's Strictly but has remained a pillar of support to the celebs and pros alike with a number of returns to the live shows.

This was reciprocated by a vast number of Strictly alumni reaching out with sweet gestures to Dowden after she'd shared a tearful video from hospital where she rang the bell following her final round of chemo.

Dowden's battle with the illness has been fraught with a number of obstacles - from unexpected side effects to a horrifying sepsis ordeal.

But the Welsh pro dancer's resilience has always shone through and here's hoping Strictly fans will get to see Dowden performing once again next year.
