Chiemka Okoronta, 29, was found guilty of three counts of rape at Bradford Crown Court

A Nigerian migrant has been jailed after raping a 17-year-old girl from Bradford multiple times after luring her into his home.

In March, Chiemka Okoronta, 29, was travelling on the same bus as the victim when the service was terminated early and passengers were told to use a taxi to get home.

The girl was left stranded as her phone had run out battery, and she was unable to contact her family or book a taxi.

The Nigerian, a student, offered to share a taxi with her. The teenager agreed and paid him £4.90 for her share of the ride.

Bradford Crown Court heard that the 29-year-old started to make "kissing movements" towards the teenager as they were travelling in the taxi together.

The court also heard that the Nigerian booked the taxi to take the pair back to his home instead of where the victim had asked to be dropped off.

Graham O’Sullivan, prosecuting, said: “She believed the taxi was going to Bradford bus station.

“In fact, the defendant had booked the taxi to take to his home address.

“When the taxi arrived, [she] got out and was asking the defendant where the bus station was.

“He began gesticulating and said if she came inside the flat, others would help her.

“Under the pretence of going to the toilet, the defendant told [the victim] to come upstairs.

“He then got her into a toilet, locked the door behind her, and raped her.”

After the ordeal had taken place, CCTV captured footage of the victim fleeing the flat and pleading for help from people nearby.

The victim told Bradford Crown Court: “This incident has turned my life upside down.

“I have flashbacks of what happened to me, I have nightmares.

“One minute I feel fine and the next minute it all comes back, I get upset and then frustrated and angered by what’s happened.”

Okoronta was sentenced to 10 years behind bars and will face deportation back to Nigeria after he is released.

Detective Constable Sue Sutcliffe said: “Okoronta took advantage of his victim and lured her to his home forcing her to engage in sexual activity.

“I would like to commend the victim in this case for her immense bravery in coming forward straight away to report this horrific crime.

“Her swift actions meant a fast-paced investigation.”
