All Creatures Great and Small saw James Herriot and Helen Herriot welcome the arrival of their first child at the end of the series four Christmas special

All Creatures Great and Small fans have been given three lots of good news today as the Channel 5 series is set to return for two more series.

The Channel 5 reboot first launched in 2020 and saw James Herriot (Nicholas Ralph) land at Skeldale House in Darrowby, joining veterinarian Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West).

During the Christmas Special in 2023, James rushed back from his RAF training base in the hopes to see his son, James, being born and support his wife Helen Herriot (Rachel Shenton) through the birth.

Elsewhere, Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley) prepared the community Christmas celebration in Darrowby, whilst Seigfried and Richard Carmody (James Anthony-Rose) fought over who should have been Father Christmas.

Just months after series four came to an end, viewers were given the good news that Channel 5 have renewed their contract and will film two more series – watching how Skeldale house and its residents will grow.

Alongside the good news, Callum Woodhouse is said to be reprising his role as Tristan Farnon – Siegfried’s younger brother – after having been away, serving in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps.

As before, the two new series will consist of six 60-minute episodes plus two Christmas Specials at the end of the year.

Ralph, Shenton, West, Madeley and Anthony-Rose will be returning to the series, alongside loveable but stern Mrs Pumphrey (Patricia Hodge) and her pampers Pekingese, Tricki Woo.

The Channel 5 series is a staple within the channel’s schedule with series four bringing in a staggering 4.4 million viewers, growing its audience further.

Confirming the news, Channel 5 wrote on their official X account: “Attention all #ACGAS fans. It’s official: All Creatures Great and Small series 5 is on its way, and a familiar face is coming back!”

After announcing the news, executive producer and CEO of Playground Sir Colin Callender said: “Kindness and decency are increasingly rare qualities these days, so it is a blessing to be able to return to the sanctuary of Skeldale House and James Herriot’s beloved characters who represent all that is the best in us.

“There are no villains in All Creatures - just everyday folk trying to get through the day with dignity with the help of a supportive community, family and friends. It’s a lesson for modern times."
