Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has been open about her breast cancer journey following last year’s diagnosis

Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has shown her resilience and bravery to her fans after she recently admitted she had to be rushed to hospital – sharing a positive update.

Dowden, 33, was diagnosed with breast cancer in May last year and has been very vocal about her recovery and the challenges which it has brought along the way.

The dancer discovered a lump in her breast just one day before heading off on her honeymoon with husband Ben Jones – still deciding to jet off to the Maldives.

Upon returning, Dowden went for a scan and was quickly told it was breast cancer, immediately starting treatment and breaking the news to her loyal following.

Whilst tackling the challenges head on, Dowden has still managed to make several appearances on last year's Strictly Come Dancing competition and joined Lorraine Kelly to raise awareness about the Coppa Feel campaign.

However, she recently revealed to her fans that she was rushed to hospital last week after suffering respiratory issues.

She wrote on her Instagram alongside an image of her in a hospital gown: “So last week didn’t exactly go to plan! Feeling much better now and still taking it easy.

“But [I] can’t thank the NHS and the care I received on [the] respiratory unity enough! Also to my family and Ben of course.”

Her fans have been eagerly waiting for an update from the Strictly star which she finally gave last night when she gave an insight into a trip away she recently had.

Following a collage of photos of her dressed up and drinking cocktails, she penned: “What a difference a week makes! Thanks to @llcollectionuk @milkwoodhouseatdylancoastalrst for such a great few days.

“The perfect mix of work, relaxation and good food with my beautiful @_thegoodnessguide. Just what the Dr ordered. SO GOOD TO [BE] BACK (was here for Christmas!).”

Many of her followers were thrilled to see she was feeling better, including her father who commented on the post: “So happy seeing you looks so well after last week. These photos remind me of the fabulous Christmas we all had there.”

“You look glowing,” another user complimented before a third added: “Lovely, you look great! That smile [is] wonderful.”

A fourth said: “You look absolutely gorgeous, so so glad you had such a lovely time.” (sic)

As well as campaigning for people to check for breast cancer, Dowden is a big advocate to stop trolling and bullying online.

She recently had to remind her followers to be mindful when commenting on her health after one user messaged to ask why she was wearing makeup in a photo she posted of her in hospital.

“I get so many lovely messages but then I also get nasty ones and comments. Can I just say for anyone going through this it’s enough to be going through it, never mind with any added trolls.

“There is no textbook on how to deal with it or how I deal with it – there is no right or wrong. You do what you need to do – be kind guys!”
