Weather: Heavy rain and showers across UK

Today:

Heavy rain mostly clearing but persisting across parts of eastern Scotland and northern England. Gales on English Channel coasts easing. Otherwise, a day of sunny spells and showers, the heaviest of these across northeast England.

Tonight:

Rain persisting over northern and eastern Scotland whilst showery rain affects some other areas. Some drier, clearer spells, especially across eastern England.

Wednesday:

Rain across northern Scotland easing. Low cloud breaking elsewhere to leave a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers, some heavy with a risk of thunder, especially in the east.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

A mixture of sunny spells and showers. Showers lighter and less widespread than on Wednesday, although turning heavier once again on Saturday. Rain will affect the south on Saturday.
