UK weather warning: Met Office warn rain to lash huge swathe of Britain for 18 HOURS

Meteorologists warn spray and flooding on roads will probably make journey times longer.

Bus and train services could be affected with journey times taking longer.

Flooding of homes and businesses remains possible and there is a risk of some interruption to power supplies and other services.

The South East of England, South West of England and parts of South Wales have all been identified as areas impacted by the yellow warning.

The Met Office said: “A spell of rain, heavy at times, will move east across southern parts of England and the south of Wales during Thursday.

“Ten to 20 mm of rain falling widely with 30-40 mm possible near the south coast of England and over east-facing hills.

“Strong winds, gusting 50 mph near coasts, will accompany the rain, with a small chance of gusts reaching 60 mph for the Isles of Scilly and west of Cornwall.”

The warning is in place from midnight until 6pm tomorrow.

A total of 12 flood warnings and 113 flood alerts are in place across England, the Environment Agency has confirmed.

Another seven flood alerts have been issued across Scotland and a further four are in place in Wales.

The warning comes just hours after the Met Office issued several amber and yellow rain and wind warnings across Wales, the North of England and Northern Ireland.

A yellow rain warning was in place from 9.46am Wednesday morning.

Areas affected included South West Scotland, Lothian Borders and Strathclyde.

The total warning time is around 18 hours as tomorrow’s alert was put in place for Thursday across Wales, the South West and South East between midnight and 6pm.

Adverse conditions come after Storm Debi followed Storm Ciaran last week.

Large swathes of the country were subsequently under torrents of gushing floodwater.
