Cloud will break out to allow some sunny spells, but parts of the UK are set to be hit with some heavy, thundery showers

Here's how the UK's weather is shaping up for today and the rest of this week.

Today:

A rather cloudy start with showers, especially in the northeast and southwest. Cloud breaking to allow more in the way of sunny spells to develop by afternoon but also a scattering of heavy, possibly thundery showers. Feeling a little warmer.

Tonight:

Showers, some heavy, dying out by midnight to leave a mostly dry night with occasional clear spells and perhaps a few mist patches by dawn.

Thursday:

A warmer day for most with sunny spells and fewer showers, although some may be quite heavy in the south and east. Light winds.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Sunny spells and showers for Friday, though many areas dry. Showers, heavy and thundery in places, develop Saturday and Sunday; more persistent rain in the south at first Saturday.
