Britain is expected to see more unsettled conditions over the next two weeks

The UK is set to be hit by a rainy deluge, bringing potential major flooding as the scorching temperatures come to end.

Weather experts predict unsettled, mixed weather conditions across the next few weeks before the heat returns.

High pressure in the Atlantic is trying to work its way across Britain to settle things down as the weekend draws closer.

Speaking to GB News, Jim Dale - Founder and Senior Meteorological Consultant at British Weather Services - said this weekend is set to be mostly dry but unsettled conditions could bring local flooding.

He said: "The UK is set to see its hottest June on record, which will soon be confirmed, plus many other countries and regions are set to announce similarly.

"Having said that, the next two weeks will see mixed weather, with no heatwaves.

"Major heat in several parts of the world right now while El Niño now in its infancy but will start to grow its impacts as the months unwind.

"We will need to be on the look out for some major flooding on the various breakdowns."

The Met Office said south eastern areas will see "murky" conditions tomorrow, but the sunshine will continue for the rest of the country - particularly in central England and Wales.

Temperatures are set to reach a high of 24C in the South East on Saturday afternoon, with a "decent day" for most of Britain.

Met Office meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth said: "Through Friday, we will see rain and cloud clear to the east of the UK, leaving many of us in a clearer air mass.

"However, low pressure will continue to bring more rain to the far north of Scotland through Saturday. The rain will clear to the east on Saturday morning, so there will perhaps be a bit of a murky start for South Eastern areas.

"Elsewhere there will be a good amount of sunshine to start the day. We'll see sunny spells for much of central England and Wales.

"Northern areas will see a little bit more in the way of showers, with persistent and quite heavy rain to the far north of Scotland."

However, forecasters predict some showers, which in parts could be heavy, next week.

Dale added: "A mostly dry weekend for us, but the following week broadly unsettled. Possible local floods but specifics are yet elusive."
