Scorching temperatures are set to blast Britain this weekend

Blazing heat is set to travel across the UK as sweltering "southern European" sun brings potential temperatures higher than 30C.

The warm temperatures will move northward from the Azores and could hit Britain by Saturday.

Brian Gaze from The Weather Outlook said the “the highest values” will be in “central and south eastern England”.

The expert explained that the “area of high pressure” is “coming up from the south west”.

“It’s possible that we’ll reach 30 or 31C on Saturday and Sunday. Possibly 32C," he told the Express.

He added that “southern European” sun is set to head for Britain, but it may not be around for very long.

The forecaster warned that “there is a bit of uncertainty” regarding how long the mini-heatwave will last.

Temperatures could be “cooler after Sunday” so Britons are urged to make the most of the sunshine.

Ahead of the weekend, rain is expected to sweep the UK with some parts set to see scattered showers, though many places will remain dry.

Highs of 28C are predicted to hit areas across London and the south east including Norfolk.

Cornwall and Devon are likely to struggle to make it out of the teens along with Wales and Scotland.

The rest of Britain is set to see glorious sunshine before cooling down to low 20s next week.
