The UK’s national weather service is warning 'hill snow' could blanket Britain by the weekend

The Met Office has predicted sleet could fall later this week as weather maps show temperatures plummeting across the UK.

Cooler temperatures will teeter towards freezing by the end of the week, with WXCHARTS forecasting lows of -5C in the Scottish Borders region.

Saturday will see temperatures drop across northern parts of the British Isles.

However, England and Wales will witness similar drops the following day.

London will fall to as low as 0C over the weekend as parts of Wales plummet to -3C.

A wind chill effect will likely make temperatures feel even colder.

Cooler conditions come as the Met Office warns of an increased risk of snow and sleet.

Looking ahead to later this week, the UK’s national weather service said: “Turning colder and more unsettled on Friday and Saturday, with heavy rain in some places.
