Spain offers the perfect blend of sun, sea and culture, all just a short flight from the UK, so it is no surprise it remains a popular choice among holidaymakers.
This isn't just for families, however, as new research shows Spanish spots dominate the top picks from solo travellers.
According to online travel agent loveholidays, bookings for short-haul “fly-and-flop” holidays by solo travellers are up by 19 per cent compared to last summer. And for those going it alone, Benidorm is proving to be the undisputed favourite.
The Costa Blanca hotspot has seen an astonishing 80 per cent jump in solo bookings this year, cementing its place as the go-to destination for holidaymakers seeking sun, sea, and a bit of solitude.
Benidorm is the most popular place for solo travellers to visit

- Benidorm, Spain
- Playa de la Americas, Canary Island
- San Antonio, Balearic Islands
- Agadir, Morocco
- Albufeira, Portugal
- Ayia Napa, Cyprus
- Marmaris, Turkey
- Hurghada, Egypt
- Magaluf, Balearic Islands
- Hammamet, Tunisia
Four of the top 10 spots were in Spain, or Spanish islands, with Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia making the list outside of Europe.
Benidorm’s appeal lies in its balance - bustling beach life by day, with karaoke and cabaret after dark, all backed by a warm and welcoming atmosphere. But it also offers a quieter side, with peaceful spots in the Old Town and plenty of walk-in restaurants for those who prefer a slower pace.
Not far behind in popularity are Playa de las Americas in Tenerife and San Antonio in Ibiza - both known for vibrant nightlife, yet offering calmer corners for solo sunbathers. Think secluded coves, relaxed beach bars, and tranquil swimming spots.
Beyond Spain, the Moroccan coastal city of Agadir and Portugal’s Albufeira are also seeing strong solo interest. With their laid-back vibes, walkable centres and easy-going dining scenes, they cater well to the growing number of Brits opting for solo escapes.
