British holidaymakers are flocking to Norway this autumn, with Thomas Cook seeing an incredible 800 per cent jump in bookings compared to last year - a massive nine-fold increase.
The Scandinavian country has become a top European pick for autumn breaks, with Britons choosing it over traditional long-haul destinations.
This surge shows just how much people love the idea of exploring Norway's cities and natural wonders during the cooler months.
The top destinations drawing Britons are Tromsø, Oslo and Bergen, according to the research, with most travellers choosing short city breaks rather than extended trips. It turns out that bed and breakfast accommodations are the way to go, with 77 per cent of people booking these stays.
A travel company has seen a surge in bookings to Norway
| GETTYBritons clearly love the idea of experiencing authentic Norwegian hospitality while exploring these stunning cities. The preference for shorter trips shows that people want quick autumn escapes without the hassle of long flights or complicated travel plans.
One of the main draws is the opportunity to see the Northern Lights. These put on a spectacular show during autumn, creating the perfect romantic backdrop for getaways.
The combination of cosy bed and breakfasts, stunning cityscapes, and those magical aurora displays makes it an irresistible choice for couples looking to escape together during the cooler months, and they make up 60 per cent of all the Norway bookings.
Holidays digital director at Thomas Cook, Nicholas Smith, said: "Traditionally, we see a shift towards long-haul bookings after the summer holidays, with empty nesters and couples seeking more distant getaways.
"We are pleasantly surprised by the immense popularity of Norway, with a ninefold increase in bookings. This trend demonstrates that short-haul city breaks remain a top choice for travellers looking for an escape during the autumnal months."
The surge shows that Britons can't resist Norway's autumn charm, even when they'd normally be jetting off to faraway places.
