Greece is the fifth most popular tourist destination for British holidaymakers

A little-known island in Greece near Santorini could provide an alternative location for tourists hoping to avoid big crowds.

Folegandros, near both Paros and Santorini, is much less visited than some of the other islands in Greece.


However, Folegrandos still boasts great architecture and natural beauty.

The island has a population of less than 1,000 people but remains popular with Greeks looking for a sunny staycation.

Greek travel agency Greeka said: “Folegandros is an island of incredible natural beauty located between Paros and Santorini.

“Despite its proximity to two of the most cosmopolitan Greek islands, Folegandros has a very different style.

“Relatively untouched by international tourists, Folegandros island still manages to keep its unspoiled charm.”

It added: “Folegandros Greece is one of the most picturesque islands of the Cyclades island chain.

“Its wild natural landscape and peaceful atmosphere make this island a great destination for relaxing holidays away from the hustle and bustle.”

Visitors can stay in properties overlooking the sea for as little as £25.50 per person per night.

Holidaymakers hoping to push the boat out can stay at the four-star Aspalathras White Hotel from just £86 or the five-star ANEMI Hotel and Spa from £163 a night.

Despite Folegandros being less-known to British tourists, Greece remains a popular location for UK-based holidaymakers.

Greece is the fifth most popular destination for British tourists, Enjoy Travel has claimed.

Spain, France, the United States and Italy were the only countries which finished above Greece, according to the holiday comparison website.
