Paris has claimed the title of the world's best foodie capital, achieving an impressive score of 93.1 out of 100 in new research.
The study evaluated global capital cities using multiple culinary metrics, including the number of five-star restaurants, Michelin Guide establishments and gastronomic tourist attractions.
The French capital - which is just one hour on a flight from London - outperformed all other destinations in the rankings, which assessed cities based on their culinary offerings per capita.
Athens secured second place with a score of 84.4, whilst Tokyo rounded out the top three with 81.5 points, cementing these cities as premier destinations for food enthusiasts worldwide.

The research examined various factors to determine each city's appeal to culinary tourists. The study by JR Pass analysed the number of five-star restaurants, culinary tourism attractions, Michelin Guide establishments, national dishes, average meal prices and Global Food Security Index scores.
The study normalised restaurant and attraction data per 100,000 residents to ensure fair comparison between cities of different sizes. With culinary tourism expected to grow by 19 per cent by 2032, the findings highlight which capitals offer the most compelling gastronomic experiences.
One in three travellers admitted they would visit new destinations specifically to sample local cuisine, underlining food's central role in modern tourism.

London placed 11th despite its renowned culinary scene, whilst budget-conscious foodies might note Tokyo's position as the most affordable destination, with meals for two averaging just £34.12.

Sydney emerged as the least appealing destination for food enthusiasts, recording a final foodie score of just 51.3 out of 100. This stark contrast with Paris highlights the vast differences in culinary offerings across world capitals.
Paris's dominance stems from its exceptional dining infrastructure, boasting 100 five-star restaurants per 100,000 residents and 24 Michelin Guide establishments. The city offers 12 national dishes, the highest number among all capitals surveyed, providing visitors with extensive opportunities to explore French gastronomy.
Despite higher meal costs averaging £58.85 for two people, Paris's world-famous culinary attractions and world-class dining establishments solidify its position as the ultimate destination for food tourism.
