American Airlines to run new flights between Edinburgh and New York City - starting within months

American Airlines is bringing something special to British travel lovers. The airline will start flying between New York's JFK airport and Edinburgh from March 2026, giving holidaymakers more ways to reach the States.
The new seasonal service will run from March 8 through to October 24, 2026. The airline will use its brand new Airbus A321XLR aircraft for these flights.
Tickets for the new route will be available from next week, November 3, on the airline's website and mobile app.
This Edinburgh route is part of a bigger picture for American Airlines. They're adding seven new trans-Atlantic routes for summer 2026, making them one of the fastest-growing US carriers flying to Europe and the Middle East.

American's expansion comes at a time when demand for trans-Atlantic travel continues to grow. With these new routes, they're positioning themselves as a major player in connecting American cities with popular European destinations.
The A321XLR is quite a special aircraft. It features 20 Flagship Suite seats with lie-flat beds and direct aisle access, 12 Premium Economy seats with enhanced headrests and footrests, plus 123 Main Cabin seats.
Every passenger will enjoy high-speed Wi-Fi and complimentary entertainment with Bluetooth connectivity. The Flagship Suite seats also offer wireless charging for devices.

American plans to serve hot meals and complimentary drinks across all cabins on these trans-Atlantic flights. The menus will change monthly to keep things interesting for regular travellers.
The airline will initially use the A321XLR on flights between JFK and Los Angeles from December 18, before deploying it on the Edinburgh route.
American's senior vice president of network and schedule planning, Brian Znotins, said: "After a successful summer in Edinburgh, American is excited to offer a second route to give travellers more access to one of their favourite destinations.

The new JFK service will work alongside American's existing Philadelphia to Edinburgh route, which launched this year and will start earlier in 2026.
