You could get up to 15 hours of battery life

  • Sony may be gearing up to launch a new PS5 DualSense controller
  • The updated controller is rumoured to have up to 15 hours of battery life
  • Prior versions have maxed out at 10 hours on a single charge
  • The new controllers have been spotted in PS5 console bundles
  • It comes as Sony has slashed the cost of its PS5 consoles

If you're worried about the battery life on your PS5 controller, Sony might have a fix.

The Japanese gaming firm is rumoured to be preparing a new version of its wireless controller, dubbed the DualSense. The latter refers to the immersive features built into the controller, like haptic feedback — detailed vibrations that respond to in-game actions — and adaptive triggers, which adjust resistance to make gameplay feel more realistic. For example, when firing a weapon in a game, you may feel the recoil through the controller.

Rumours have circulated for some time that Sony will release a revised version of the DualSense controller, which would feature a removable battery. The original rumour came from the Polish website PPE, which also believed this revised controller would be sold with a revised PS5 Pro.

However, a removable battery doesn't appear to be true. A Polish user recently posted on X that the revised DualSense controller for PS5 consoles has an improved battery life of continuous play for up to 15 hours.

In comparison, the current controller is said to last only up to 10 hours.

This isn't a software update for existing controllers. You would have to purchase the brand-new controller if you want to take advantage of the stronger battery life.

The revised version of this controller has been said to be showing up packaged with recently revised PS5 Digital Edition and PS5 Pro consoles. The controllers will also reportedly be sold as a standalone item down the line.

To check and see if you have the new controller in the purchase of your console, you'll need to look for product code CFI-ZCT2W listed on the box.

Save £135 on the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition

The PS5 Digital Edition offers the full next-gen experience without a disc drive, which could be a great option for gamers who prefer an all-digital library. It features the same performance as the standard PS5, including high-speed SSD technology, rich 4K graphics, and the immersive DualSense controller. Sleek and streamlined, the digital-only design reduces added bulkiness while providing instant access to games, updates, and entertainment through the PlayStation Store’s expansive catalogue.

Save £90 on the PlayStation 5 Pro

The PlayStation 5 Pro pushes console power even further, targeting enhanced 4K performance and higher frame rates for more demanding titles. With improved performance, advanced upscaling, and a refined cooling system, the PS5 Pro is designed to provide even smoother gameplay and sharper visuals. The Pro model doesn't come with a disc drive like the standard PS5.

If you prefer to pay for the console in installments, Sony's website offers a leasing option for only £16.49 per month. This could serve as a great option if you don't want to pay for the full console upfront. However, you won't own it outright.

The recently revised PS5 Digital Edition, which was released earlier this year, features a reduction in internal storage. Instead of being sold with 1TB of storage, it's now stocked on shelves with only 825GB of storage.

The reason? It's been speculated that instead of raising the prices on the current models, the company decided to offer less at the same price.

As a result, you're receiving an even lighter-feeling console.

It's overall appearance also changed, going from a glossy finish to a matte look.

On the other hand, the PS5 Pro is a more powerful version of the PlayStation 5, built to push higher graphics quality and smoother performance. It keeps the PS5 experience familiar, but focuses on boosting visuals — especially with 4K gaming.

It was first released in 2024, but has since had a revised version released as recently as October this year.

The revised PS5 Pro also boasts a slightly slimmer redesign. It's been said that to have better cooling mechanisms in place, so the console doesn't overheat during gameplay.
