Sky broadband returns to 'lowest price', but is it the cheapest full-fibre upgrade around today?

Sky Broadband Full Fibre 500 comes with a guaranteed minimum speed of 400Mbps. If your connection fails to meet that threshold for three days in a row within the same 30-day period, you can cancel and switch to another provider with none of the usual early termination charges.

Full Fibre 500 costs £46 out-of-contract, but you can lock in these broadband speeds for just £30 a month. According to Sky, that's the "lowest ever price" for this broadband package. Yes, this is even cheaper than during the Sky Black Friday sale, which sees subscriptions slashed for a few days each year.

If you don't need all that coverage, though, Sky is also offering a deal on its Full Fibre 150 plan for only £26 per month. This package offers minimum download speeds of 100Mbps, and the time to download a movie will take an estimated 1minute, 21 seconds.

It also offers wall-to-wall Wi-Fi guaranteed in every room. Like its other deals, you can switch your broadband package with Sky without any of the usual upfront fees, or cancel and switch to another provider with no early termination charges if you stumble across the guaranteed connection issues.

Sky Broadband has waived the £5 upfront fee too — so it won't cost you anything to switch today.

Full Fibre 500 is available in 60% of all UK homes. You'll need to live in an area that's been upgraded to the latest fibre broadband infrastructure by BT-owned Openreach. The company is ploughing ahead with an ambitious goal to upgrade 25 million premises to full-fibre broadband by December 2026.

Earlier this year, the BT-owned firm revealed 17 million homes had been successfully upgraded to the speediest full-fibre internet connection. These next-generation connections offer download speeds up to 1,600Mbps.

Openreach works with over 650 individual service providers across its network, including Sky Broadband, BT, EE, TalkTalk, Plusnet, and many others. Since these brands all rely on the same underground cable running to your property, you can switch between these providers and access the same download speeds.

According to figures published by Ofcom, the average home broadband speed in the UK sits at roughly 73Mbps. If you upgrade to any of the 300Mbps full-fibre plans listed above, you'll enjoy 4x faster download speeds — meaning you can stream high-quality video, back up photos to the cloud, download software updates, and make video calls with friends and family anywhere in the world without any buffering.

Is the 'lowest ever price' from Sky the best broadband deal available today?

While Sky is advertising its "lowest price" ever, it may not be the best broadband deal currently available.

Plusnet is offering its Full Fibre 500 package for only £27.99, which is just £2 less than Sky's lowest deal ever. You'll get a minimum guaranteed speed of 275Mbps on a 24-month contract.

The company has also slashed the price of its fastest full-fibre broadband plan to just £31.99 a month.

For that, you'll benefit from eye-watering download speeds of 900Mbps.

Plusnet's Full Fibre 900 offers a guaranteed minimum speed of 500Mbps and an estimated 900Mbps download speed. For context, that's over 11x faster than the average home internet speed as measured in the UK earlier this year — so you'll have no problem downloading large files, streaming movies in the highest quality, or making stutter-free video calls at peak times.

You'd most likely want to Full Fibre 900 if you live in a large household, have a home business, or take part in demanding online activities like 4K/8K streaming and competitive gaming.

EE has unleashed one of the most enticing new offers to attract switchers. For a limited time, switch to EE and they'll cover any leaving fees up to £300 to switch. Yes, really.

That means you'll be able to get out of your current contract for free.

Plus, Sky isn't the only broadband company offering its "lowest price" on new contracts.

EE is offering Full Fibre 300 free for the first month, and only £30.99 for the months afterwards. For a limited time, EE is offering free broadband for the first months of your contract. Available on speedy full-fibre packages, like EE Full Fibre 300 and the all-singing, all-dancing Made For Gamers package with the new Wi-Fi 7 hub and 1.6Gbps download speeds. If you're not outside of your current contract, EE will contribute up to £300 towards early exit fees.

EE Full Fibre 300 includes a guaranteed minimum speed of 150Mbps and no upfront cost. According to the company, their price on this package has "never been better."

Like Sky and Plusnet, they're also offering a deal on their Full Fibre 500 plan. You can enjoy gaming, streaming, and working from home without buffering or lag.
