With Christmas Day in the rearview mirror, retailers have launched their Boxing Day sales — and if you’re looking for a new cordless vacuum cleaner, you’re spoilt for choice.
Dyson has launched its New Year Event, which will run into early January, with discounts to several of its best-selling cordless vacuum cleaners.
For a limited time, you can bag the bagless Dyson V8 for £229.99, which is a £100 saving on its standard price. This model has 40 minutes of continuous run time and two power modes. Meanwhile, the filter system is designed to stop 99.99% of microscopic particles.
In the box, you’ll find a motorised brush-head, a wall-mounted cradle, a charger, crevice attachment, and a smaller combination head too. The 0.5-litre capacity dustbin is a little smaller than you’ll find on more recent Dyson, but it should be plenty for most people.
The biggest discount available in the Dyson New Year Event is a £130 discount on the flagship Dyson V15 Detect Total Clean. This price cut drops the cordless vacuum down to £569.99.

For that, you’ll get a longer life battery providing up to 60-minutes of vacuuming. It has a larger 0.76-litre capacity bin so you won’t need to stop to empty the vacuum during longer cleaning sessions.
As well as the same two power modes found on the V8, the V15 Detect has an Auto mode that intelligently monitors the resistance felt in the brush-bar up to 360 times a second, so that it can adapt the amount of power used across different floor types. This extends battery life by reducing the amount of suction on hardwood floors compared to deep-pile carpets, for example.
As the name suggests, the V15 Detect has a laser built into the motorised head that illuminates the microscopic dust and dirt you can’t normally see on hard floors. An LCD display calculates and categorises sucked-up particles, revealing what’s been removed from your home as you clean.
Dyson offers the option to pay in 3 interest-free instalments. All orders come with free scheduled delivery nationwide and a two-year hardware warranty.
But Dyson has some tough competition.
Samsung has kickstarted its own sale across its online store, with 15% off all cordless vacuum cleaners when you use code VAC15 at checkout before January 4, 2024.
Not only that, but Samsung will discount its vacuums by an extra £100 if you agree to trade-in your existing cleaning kit. Samsung will collect the trade-in item when it delivers your shiny new model — so you don’t need to worry about being left without a vacuum.

The South Korean brand’s answer to the Dyson V15 Detect is the Samsung Jet 95 Complete 210W Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner. This flagship model is 47% lighter than previous iterations of the vacuum. But despite the lighter design, the motor tops-out at 135,000rpm — compared to 125,000rpm for the Dyson V15 Detect. Samsung says the result is 210W of suction power.
It arrives with a 0.8-litre capacity dustbin, which is large enough that you likely won’t need to worry about constant trips to-and-from the bin to empty the vacuum.
Like the equivalent Dyson vacuums, Samsung includes a charging cradle that can be mounted on the wall. There’s also a slender crevice tool, designed motorised head for pet owners that’s designed to stop longer hairs becoming tangled in the mechanism, and a standard motorised brush-head.
With discount code VAC15, you can drop the price of the Samsung Jet 95 Complete 210W vacuum cleaner to £425. If you have a vacuum cleaner to trade in at checkout, that plummets down to just £325.
Samsung includes a five-year warranty with its cordless vacuum cleaners.
Lastly, some of the fiercest competition to Dyson's Boxing Day sale is the company's own Outlet Store, which operates on ebay and offers huge savings on refurbished units. Although you won't always find the same models as the Dyson store — and you'll have to settle with a one-year hardware warranty instead of the two included with new units — it's a great way to unlock even bigger savings.
