This new telly will let you watch your favourite shows and display your preferred artwork

  • LG Electronics has confirmed plans to launch its new Gallery TV
  • This will display artwork on-screen whenever you're not watching telly
  • It's a similar concept to The Frame lineup from Samsung, launched in 2017
  • Both offer subscriptions with a range of iconic paintings and artwork
  • Sadly, there's no release date for the LG Gallery TV confirmed
  • But prior releases from LG suggest it could be available to buy this spring

Samsung — the biggest-selling television brand on the planet — is about to get a healthy dose of competition for one of its most unique Smart TV models. LG Electronics has confirmed plans to unveil its brand-new Gallery TV within the next month, and it's been created with actual museum curators to turn your living room into an art gallery.

This standout feature is called Gallery Mode, which adjusts colours and brightness to make artwork appear lifelike on your TV screen whenever the telly is not in-use. This clever trick makes it look like an actual piece of art is displayed in your home — not your telly.

Park Hyoung-sei, President of the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company, said: "We will continue to lead the market by expanding our lifestyle TV lineup, transforming the screen into a companion that fluidly adapts to our customers' preferences.

"Our goal is to enrich customers' lives by providing the freedom to design every aspect of their personal space."

This is a very similar concept to Samsung's The Frame. Samsung has had its own proprietary technology to display painting and other artwork across these models since the launch back in 2017. However, LG's new curator collaboration could give the Gallery TV an edge when it comes to displaying masterpieces authentically.

For instance, the team at LG will be introducing the LG Gallery+, where you'll have access to more than 4,500 pieces of content that get refreshed every month, covering everything from classic fine art to cinematic scenes, game visuals and animations.

Fancy creating your own artwork? The service will also let you use Generative AI to make custom images, or you can display your personal photos. There's even background music built in to set the mood, with options to stream your own playlists via Bluetooth.

In comparison, Samsung's Art Store offers around 3,000 works from over 1,000 artists, including pieces from the Museum of Modern Art and Art Basel. LG's larger library gives it a numerical advantage here.

When it comes to size options, you'll be able to choose between 55 and 65-inch models with LG's MiniLED technology underneath the display. The TV sports a slim design that sits flush against your wall, and you can swap out the magnetic frames to match your décor.

There's plenty of storage built in for saving your favourite content, too, and the Alpha 7 AI Processor delivers crisp 4K visuals alongside AI Sound Pro audio that simulates immersive sound.

Samsung's Frame Pro, by comparison, uses Neo QLED technology and comes in sizes up to 85 inches. Both brands offer customisable bezels and anti-reflection screens, though Samsung has been certified with Pantone colour validation for its displays.

This means its display meets Pantone's rigorous colour display tests, making each artwork look as lifelike as possible. If you're looking to get your hands on LG's Gallery TV, there's no confirmed release date quite yet.

However, previous new releases from the company suggest that it could be available for purchase this upcoming spring.
