If you're seeking a digital writing companion that fits in your pocket, reMarkable has just launched its new Paper Pro Move with a compact 7.3-inch colour e-ink screen.

This marks reMarkable's third tablet release, following last year's 11.8-inch Paper Pro and the 2020 reMarkable 2. The move represents a shift in the company's approach, prioritising portability while maintaining the same colour E Ink technology found in its larger sibling.

If you're not familiar with the brand, reMarkable is a Norwegian tech company known for creating digital paper tablets aimed at replacing notebooks and printed documents. Known for their ultra-thin, paper-like devices, reMarkable hopes to combine the feel of handwriting with the power of digital organisation — offering a focused, distraction-free experience for reading, note-taking, and sketching.

As such, reMarkable devices have a glare-free, paper-like quality for a true-to-life writing experience when annotating documents or writing notes, but benefit from the perks of modern-day devices, with files synced in the cloud so they can never be lost and the ability to search through your scrawlings for a specific word or name.

You'll find this new device significantly smaller than the company's previous offerings, measuring roughly the size of a paperback novel.

At 195.6mm tall and 107.8mm wide, you'll discover the Paper Pro Move slips easily into jacket pockets or bags, weighing just 235 grams without accessories. The device measures 6.5mm thick, making it slightly thicker than an iPad mini but considerably lighter at roughly half the weight.

You're looking at a tablet that's essentially one-third the size of the brand's standard Paper Pro, with the Move's longest edge matching the Paper Pro's width. You can hold it comfortably in one hand while writing with the other, while competitors, such as the Kindle Scribe, can be almost double the size.

You can also sync documents with Google Drive, Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive, though file support remains limited to PDFs and ePub formats.

The gentle front light helps in dim conditions but won't match a Kindle's brightness.

The tablet arrives in two options: £399 with the standard Marker stylus or £439 for the bundle including the Marker Plus with a built-in eraser function for greater writing control. The stylus is the digital pen that allows you to take notes directly on the device.

Both stylus variations unlock different digital writing modes like a fountain pen or a pencil, plus an extensive template library, featuring everything from ruled lines to musical notation and architectural grids. The device can also convert handwritten notes to typed text through cloud-based processing, giving you the option to make your note-taking more organised.

The display technology uses E Ink Gallery 3, meaning it produces muted but distinct colours through microscopic ink particles that physically move to create images.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

For even more advanced capabilities, you have the option to take part in a monthly Connection subscription for £2.99. This gives you the ability to use handwriting search, which allows you to find specific words and phrases within your handwritten notes. You can also edit notes within your documents and integrate Slack, a messaging platform for businesses.

The subscription allows a 100-day free trial before charges begin, and it supports up to three devices simultaneously.

Battery life extends up to two weeks on standby or three days of active use, so you don't have to worry about finding a charging outlet on your travels. The Marker stylus also charges magnetically when attached to the tablet's side, eliminating the need for a separate charging cable.
