Amazon just announced three new Kindle models, including its most expensive e-ink device ever.
Starting from £569.99, this top-of-the-line Kindle Scribe costs twice as much as some of the new Fire TV-powered Smart TVs announced at the same event in New York City. Dubbed the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, it borrows the colourful e-ink that made its debut on the Kindle Colorsoft in the UK last year, but includes the ability to make handwritten notes, annotate documents, and sign PDFs.
There's a slew of AI-powered features to make it easier to search through your notes, organise your documents into folders, and back up everything to the cloud. As you'd expect from a Kindle, battery life is measured in weeks, not hours, and there aren't any distracting apps or notifications to pull you away from your thoughts.
Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is just one of the three new models announced at the latest devices event. Amazon also unveiled a refresh to the standard Kindle Scribe and introduced a new Scribe with a Front Light. During the packed keynote, Amazon executives also showed off a slew of redesigned Echo speakers, an affordable new Fire TV Stick, and more.

So what's new about these specific models?
For starters, the newest standout model, Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, marks Amazon's inaugural venture into colour e-ink technology for their writing-focused devices. This isn't the first colour e-reader Amazon has ever released. They recently launched two new Kindle Colorsoft e-readers, the Kindle Colorsoft and Colorsoft Kids.
Amazon achieves this through their custom-built Colorsoft display system. This employs a colour filter combined with a light guide featuring nitride LEDs, creating gentle hues that won't strain your eyes like traditional LCD screens.
You'll benefit from a specially developed rendering engine that ensures your writing remains swift and natural while maintaining vibrant colours. The new colour Scribe offers 10 lifelike pen colours and five highlighter options for your creative needs.
If you're an artist, you may enjoy the new shader tool, enabling smooth gradients and subtle tonal variations in your work. The display maintains weeks of battery life despite the colour capabilities.

The new Scribe series has also been completely redesigned with productivity at its core.
Writing and page-turning speeds improved by 40%, so you can use the e-reader with little to no delays. The models also incorporate a quad-core processor for better performance and increased memory capacity.
For productivity enthusiasts, you may find the AI-powered notebook search particularly useful. This feature enables you to locate information across multiple notebooks by asking simple questions, with the system providing concise AI-generated summaries.
As an example, you can ask questions about a book you're reading, and it will provide spoiler-free answers.
You can also connect your device to Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive, simplifying document imports for annotation. The ability to export marked-up PDFs adds further versatility to your workflow.
Like the other Kindle e-readers, you can expect no distracting applications or notifications, allowing complete focus on your writing and creative tasks. The new models are much lighter, too, weighing just 400g, compared to the 433g for the Kindle Scribe first revealed during the same hardware event from Amazon last year.
If you're hoping to purchase these devices, you'll need to wait just a little bit longer. While the US will gain access to these new models during the latter part of 2025, the UK will need to wait until early 2026.
However, US shoppers won't be able to shop the new standard Scribe without the front light until 2026 as well.
These are the UK prices for the new Scribe series:
- Kindle Scribe starts at £449.99
- Kindle Scribe without the front light will be £389.99
- Kindle Scribe Colorsoft will start at £569.99
If you have an existing Amazon Kindle and are looking to upgrade for a deal, Amazon offers 20% off a new model when you trade in your old device. To take part, follow these five steps:

- When you accept the offer, confirm your trade-in and follow the instructions to print a prepaid shipping label.
- Ship Your Kindle by using the provided label.
- Once Amazon receives and appraises your device, you will receive the trade-in value as an Amazon gift card.
