Currys' website went offline for planned maintenance overnight

Currys' online website is officially back up and running for shoppers across the UK, after reportedly being down this morning. The British electrical retailer was only supposed to be out of commission overnight for planned maintenance to make its shopping experience better.

However, the upgrade to its systems dragged on into the morning, causing a spike in reports on DownDetector as troubled Britons attempt to buy online. DownDetector is an independent website that monitors the performance of online services and apps based on chatter across social media.

It shows dozens of Currys shoppers reporting problems with the Currys website earlier today (September 3).

Visiting the Currys website in the UK this morning, shoppers were greeted with a static page that read: "We'll be back soon! Looking for our amazing tech deals? Don't worry, they're still here! "We're just taking some time to make your experience with us even better. We are busy upgrading our systems, and we will be back up and running later this morning. We're sorry the site is down. If you need something urgently, then our stores are operating as normal."
